Endless Debt

Chapter 1181 - 28: Day of Liberation

Chapter 1181 - 28: Day of Liberation

Bologue has encountered many formidable foes, among them, this monstrous abomination is undoubtedly the most unique. The other enemies had their own thoughts, their own standpoints and obsessions. Even if they were adversaries, sometimes Bologue could understand their thoughts.

But this Calamity of the world is different. It has no personal thoughts, no standpoint to speak of. Compared to the Debtor and the Chosen One, Bologue believes this monster is the true representative of the Devil.

Without a single distraction, it is so pure, born entirely for its own desires, the absolute embodiment of the concept of Gluttony.

Devour, constantly devour.

Whether it be rock, flesh, or even Ether, anything that can satisfy its endless hunger becomes its meal. Beyond that, it cares for nothing.

"A machine."

Serey once commented on the existence of this Calamity, "You can completely treat it as a machine programmed with the command ’devour’, its sole purpose is to execute this command until its own demise."

At present, such a pure monster is so troublesome that even the Order Bureau is at its wit’s end. Yet, as Aimou narrates, it seems there may be more than one such monster.

"Does that mean there could be six other monsters like this?" Bologue asked, his expression turning grave.

Aimou whispered, "Seven Devils correspond to the seven deadly sins, seven great protections, and... seven calamities capable of destroying the world."

The two fell into silence simultaneously. This world is always more brutal than anticipated, like a dark fairytale.

"But the current records only mention this one," Bologue said.

"Perhaps the other Calamities of this world are dead, or yet to be born."

Aimou shared his thoughts, "After all, they arise from the fallen Seekers of Glory. You must know there aren’t many Seekers of Glory, let alone those willing to sacrifice their entire soul, and... these Calamities of the world don’t seem immortal."

"Remember our encounters back then?" Aimou asked, "The power these Calamities possess is similar to the Power of Protection of the Devil, only their protection is far more extreme."

Bologue nodded. When he encountered the Calamity of this world in the Abandoned Land, from the power it displayed, it was an extreme form of Protection·Bloodthirsty Healing. Any consumable material would enable it to regenerate quickly, even becoming immortal. It was only through this power that it matched the burning of light scourge.

"Perhaps in the previous world, there were multiple Calamities of this world, but they were all killed."

Listening to Aimou’s words, Bologue couldn’t help but say, "Either they have yet to be born, or they died long ago, right?"

"Do you feel that the world has gotten worse?" Aimou smiled.

Bologue shook his head, "I think it’s okay. In my eyes, this world is already terrible enough, so a little worse doesn’t matter, it’s merely a matter of cutting down a few more."

"You are indeed optimistic."

"Mainly because worry won’t change anything, rather be optimistic," Bologue said, "People need some beautiful memories, to endure the bad days."

"Sounds like you have a lot of experience in this area."

"Of course," Bologue did not continue further, "But who would want to experience terrible things for no reason."

Bologue and Aimou wandered around Gray Stone Town. Now the umbilical cord felt like a radar being jammed, Bologue could only measure the size of Gray Stone Town with his own feet, gambling on encounters at every corner and alley, hoping for some progress in events.

"But... if our enemies are indeed the Scarlet Rot Sect, and their goal is to liberate the Calamity of the world," Bologue mused, "Is there any meaning to it? That monster has no intellect, it will just indiscriminately devour."

"Are you trying to figure out what a group of cultists is thinking?" Aimou laughed off Bologue’s speculation, "You’re overthinking it, like a control freak."

Bologue laughed helplessly. Aimou was right. Bologue always wanted to control everything, leaving him exhausted.

"The Calamity of the world is like a biological bomb. Once detonated, it will trigger a large-scale attack similar to the Blight Epidemic, putting pressure on the Order Bureau... Perhaps that’s what they want," Aimou added, "Don’t you feel the situation is becoming clearer?"

"Tell me," Bologue said, "I was too fixated and couldn’t see clearly."

"It’s all about choosing sides," Aimou said, "Our enemies are surfacing one by one, just waiting for us to defeat them one by one!"

Aimou waved his fist.

Bologue found a bit of truth in Aimou’s words. The Zongge Orchestra, who were once adversaries, had long since disappeared. The Unfettered Poetry Society was also nowhere to be found. They seemed to have vanished from sight, as if to avoid troubling the Order Bureau. As for the remaining enemies, they were becoming increasingly active, as if a great battle was imminent.

Taking a deep breath, Bologue stretched out, getting into work mode. Aimou again asked, "Bologue, what do you think about it?"

"What do I think? Just work," Bologue said, "Solve these troublesome guys, rebuild order."

"No no no, I mean your own thoughts," Aimou emphasized.
