Chapter 342 The Exorcist
Chapter 342 The Exorcist
Of course, these are just Yan Xun's guesses; he did not actually witness these "angels" eating the meatballs.
“I’ll go to that white house tonight,” Yan Xun said to Levi, sitting on a chair by the artificial lake.
“I saw a coffin there,” Yan Xun said. “Last night, a member suddenly passed away before we arrived at the New Generation.”
“What are you doubting?” Levy asked.
“I suspect that the person inside isn’t…Doug?” Yan Xun still remembered the name Bourne had mentioned. “There are only 29 people in the new generation now.”
“If eating the meatballs can grant them ‘life’ and make them younger, that’s true,” Yan Xun said. “Then Doug might not be dead yet; he might still be in this manor.”
Levi understood what Yan Xun meant, "But I've looked, and there are indeed only 29 winged people here..."
He paused abruptly here, then looked at Yan Xun.
“The housekeeper said there are 30 members in the New Generation,” Yan Xun said. “Nobody knows the exact number of members in the New Generation.”
When the butler told him the number of people, they had already decided to come to New Generation.
They misled Yan Xun and Levi from the beginning, making them believe that there were 30 members here, and that it was perfectly reasonable that there were 29 people left in the manor after the one who died.
Judging from the attitude of Doug's family, at least his parents didn't care why he died suddenly—or perhaps they had already foreseen this day when he grew wings, so they were more concerned about whether the accommodation provided by Conrad would be taken back.
"So you suspect there's someone hidden in the coffin?" Levy asked.
Yan Xun shrugged, without giving a direct answer.
"Can you contact Koy or anyone else?" Yan Xun asked Levi.
Levy looked at him for a moment, then said, "Okay."
"We had already agreed on the signal before we arrived here."
Coy and his organization knew that Yan Xun and his companion had come to the territory of the New Generation—they were extremely suspicious of Conrad and had made preparations long ago.
Night fell quickly, and after finishing their meal, Yan Xun and his companion went to their temporary bedroom.
Then the member of the new faction returned Yan Xun's clothes, which he had left in Bern's room, before leaving.
Levi watched as Yan Xun put on his trousers, then took off his white robe and changed back into his original clothes.
He glanced at the bathroom, seemingly wanting to say something but holding back, and was just about to speak when he saw that Yan Xun had already changed his clothes—
"What do you want to say?" Yan Xun turned around and saw Levi's hesitant expression, as if he wanted to say something but dared not.
Levi shook his head. "I just wanted to remind you that there's a bathroom there."
“I know,” Yan Xun said, genuinely puzzled as to why Levi was hesitating.
He only changed his shirt in front of Levy; he had already put his trousers under his white robe, so there was absolutely no risk of him exposing himself.
Is it because everyone is more conservative in this dungeon setting...?
Three question marks flashed through Yan Xun's mind, but he didn't delve into them. He went to the window and looked at the white house.
He estimated the distance between the window and the ground, and after confirming that he could land safely, he began to wait for the right opportunity.
Around 11 p.m., they turned off the lights in the room. Neither of them spoke. Yan Xun simply sat on the edge of the bed, waiting for a more suitable time.
Levy sat down beside him. "I think I can go with you."
"where to?"
"That church?"
Yan Xun looked Levi up and down. The light from the window allowed him to observe his temporary assistant well. He was about to say, "Aren't you a farmer?" when he remembered the man's swift and skillful pig-slaughtering movements.
“Koy said they are your 30th deliverymen,” Yan Xun said.
He suddenly brought up an unrelated question, "What about the previous 29 deliverymen?"
Levi looked surprised, whether he didn't expect Koy to bring this up or he didn't expect Yan Xun to ask such an irrelevant question at this moment.
“There are always some unexpected things,” he said to Yan Xun.
"It's not as peaceful here as you think."
"Just like you're going to hide your identity and live outside the city?" Yan Xun suddenly said.
“Hidden identity?” Levi didn’t seem to understand what he meant. “I’m just a farmer.”
“Then it seems I misunderstood something,” Yan Xun said. “I thought you were the leader of the Koyi organization.”
Levi seemed not to understand what he was saying, and just looked at him with a puzzled expression.
"Koy doesn't know who you are?"
“I guess Liam didn’t know either,” Yan Xun said.
“Liam is in charge of handling some miscellaneous tasks for the organization.” Yan Xun looked at Levi. “You’re wondering why I suddenly moved here and quickly became on good terms with Liam.”
“I suspect someone reported this,” Yan Xun said.
He recalled the occasional hat-wearing men who appeared, and had no doubt that they were monitoring his actions.
"You suspect that I deliberately contacted Liam."
"Trying to uncover your organization's secrets?"
"Why?" Yan Xun asked. "Many people want to move to this neighborhood. Do you suspect everyone?"
Levi stared at Yan Xun for a long time before finally speaking, "I can't find out your background."
"It's like you appeared out of nowhere."
“You suddenly appeared on the second floor of the pharmacy and started working as a private investigator,” he told Yan Xun. “They looked for a lot of clues and found that your background was clean; you had no past.”
"Nobody knows how you got into the city."
"It's as if you appeared out of thin air, and then just happened to come to the second floor and rent that room."
"So you're using Liam's disappearance as an opportunity to test me?" Yan Xun asked, "to see if I'm hiding anything?"
"More or less," Levy said.
"now what?"
“I’m sorry,” Levy said. “I’m just used to being cautious.”
His words were tantamount to ruling out any doubts about Yan Xun.
"When did you start to doubt me?" Levy asked curiously.
"After returning to the city," Yan Xun said.
According to Koy, the other party was just a farmer who lived outside the city and hardly interacted with anyone. He was mostly out of touch with the outside world, but his behavior and familiarity with the city after returning to the city showed otherwise.
In particular, the results of several investigations that Yan Xun hoped Levi could help him with always came out very quickly.
In addition, when he went to Bonnie's apartment, the man downstairs who greeted Levi... he guessed that Levi must have a very important position in this organization. As for whether the man was the leader of the organization, he was just testing the waters.
"So what did you make Liam do?"
What task was assigned to him specifically?
“I hope he can take away one of the people I caught in the forest,” Levy said.
Hearing that this wasn't the first time the other party had been to the forest, Yan Xun wasn't surprised—he felt that given Levi's style, it was impossible for him not to investigate after finding so many corpses outside the farm.
"Alive?" Yan Xun asked.
"Yes."
“I told him to put it in the cargo bed of the truck,” Levy said, of course, on orders from the organization’s higher-ups.
"After he returned to the factory, he said that there had been some accidents on the way."
"When he arrived in the city, he found that the people who had been locked in the carriage had disappeared."
Levy said, "Others inspected the carriages and found that they had indeed been forced open."
"He was very uneasy, worried that it would implicate his family."
“I don’t mean to blame him,” Levy said, “but there’s always a price to pay for doing something wrong.”
He casually remarked to Yan Xun, "But strangely, he has disappeared."
"You suspect he let that person escape?" Yan Xun asked.
“Who knows,” Levy said. “That’s something you need to investigate.”
All I know is that the person has disappeared.
“He came from the south, and may have some connection with the Church of Angels.”
He looked at Yan Xun and said, "My purpose and thoughts are very simple."
"I want these monsters and that damned church to all disappear."
……
In the early morning, Yan Xun gracefully landed on the lawn from the window.
He walked quickly toward the white house.
He encountered few obstacles along the way and arrived at the white house without any trouble.
However, when he opened the door, he still saw Bourne waiting inside, who was not surprised to see Yan Xun.
The candles in the house were still burning around the coffin. He held up a candle and looked back at Yan Xun, "I knew you would come."
"So?" Yan Xun asked, "Are you welcoming me here?"
“Mr. Conrad said you’re in the way,” he said to Yan Xun.
Yan Xun was too lazy to listen to his nonsense—he couldn't use many items in this instance, so he could only carry an axe.
Bourne made no attempt to dodge, letting Yan Xun's axe strike him, even severing his shoulder, causing copious amounts of blood to gush out—like a scene from a cult film, with blood splattering everywhere as if it were trying to dye the entire house red.
His strange attitude surprised even Yan Xun.
The candles surrounding the coffin were still burning, and the blood seemed to be rushing to the roof; everything looked just like a gruesome scene from a cult film.
Soon Bourne pulled out a dagger. Yan Xun dodged, thinking that the other party was about to attack, but he saw Bourne cut open his stomach himself.
They pulled out something that looked like a fleshy ball.
Upon seeing this thing, Yan Xun even felt as if the statue in the room had glanced at him.
Bourne quickly devoured the fleshy ball, and his severed arm grew back at a visible speed. His face showed pain, but he seemed to enjoy it... This kind of believer who took pain as strength and faith immediately reminded Yan Xun of the Angel Guild.
In less than a minute, Bourne had already mutated rapidly in Yan Xun's sight.
His body swelled up instantly, his face showing both pain and piety. He bent down, wanting to grab Yan Xun and strangle him to death.
The moment Yan Xun saw the mutated Bourne, he took out the exorcism pistol that Lou Yanchuan had given him and aimed it at the mutated Bourne.
Bourne saw that the thing gave him a disdainful look, as if it thought the small pistol would do him no harm.
However, the silver bullet fired from the A-grade item pierced through his mutated head in an instant, showing no power whatsoever for a pistol of that caliber, and directly slammed his skull against the wall behind him.
The severed head tried to regenerate, but perhaps due to the power of the tool, it would disintegrate again once it healed to the point of breakage.
Finally, the constant regeneration and repair took a toll on Bourne's energy.
His body fell down and slammed heavily onto the coffin.
As a result, most of the candles on the ground were extinguished.
Yan Xun walked over and lifted the coffin of Bourne's body—and saw two people lying inside.
Liam's eyes were closed, and he looked like he had been dead for several days. Even though the coffin was filled with flowers and essential oils, it still smelled bad when the coffin was opened.
A younger man was huddled beside him.
Yan Xun pulled him and Liam out of the coffin.
The stranger's belly was slightly swollen, but the thing inside was still wriggling, showing no sign of coming out, yet no matter how you looked at it, he was completely dead.
He felt an uneasy strangeness, but still followed the mission instructions and dragged both him and Liam away from the white house.
Levy waited outside to prevent any other members of the New Generation from getting close.
Yan Xun immediately closed the door after entering the house. He could hear some sounds inside, but they were not clear.
When he saw Yan Xun covered in blood and the two corpses he was dragging... he almost forgot to give the signal.
Yan Xun laboriously threw the two corpses onto the lawn, then plopped down on the ground.
"Do you have any cigarettes?" he suddenly asked the main system.
Broccoli remained silent, but at this moment he still stuffed cigarettes and a lighter into his system inventory.
Yan Xun took out two items handed to him by the main system from his pocket.
[Cigarette: Why is such an ordinary cigarette appearing in the system shop?]
[Lighter: It can ignite anything, and even a gale-force wind cannot extinguish its flame!]
"What are you standing there for?" Yan Xun sat on the lawn, looking at Levi. "Send a signal."
As he spoke, he lit a cigarette in his hand—just as the system had said, the flame of the lighter was completely unaffected by the wind.
Levy had already given the signal at this moment, and Yan Xun just sat there with a cigarette in his mouth, looking at the two corpses beside him.
"Is this Ellie?" He looked at the other body and tried to turn him over.
Levy then saw the corpse's face clearly.
“I’ve seen him,” he said.
Yan Xun looked up, and within seconds he understood what Levi meant, "The one outside the farm?"
“Yes,” Levy said.
If the other person is indeed Ellie, why would he return to this place after leaving the manor? And even become a corpse in the same coffin as Liamsey?
Yan Xun reached out and touched his abdomen. Something inside was strangely pressing against Yan Xun's palm. He immediately shook his hand, trying to shake off the sensation.
"That thing is still alive?" Levi asked in disbelief.
He pulled out a knife from his back waist, seemingly ready to take care of the monster.
Yan Xun stopped him.
Levi looked at him.
"Wait a minute," Yan Xun said. His mission was to take Ellie away... He planned to complete the mission first.
Levi's reinforcements arrived quickly, and Levi opened the door to the white house, where he saw "Bourne" inside.
The other party has become a complete monster.
He subconsciously turned to look at Yan Xun, "How did you do that?"
No matter how you look at it, the things inside the house can hardly be called human.
Yan Xun extinguished his cigarette, looked at Levi, and said slowly, "You should remember."
"I have said that I am an exorcist."
