Chapter 280 The Smell
Chapter 280 The Smell
"Lin Wen and Fang Shuo were a couple who were together in school. They were three years older than the guy with the buzz cut." Lou Yanchuan drew on the information from his memory.
"So, in that case, they won't run into Xie Qingdu?"
“When they were seniors, Xie Qingdu was a freshman and they were not on the same campus.”
"That's how it is in theory, but at the time Lin Wen was helping to review the list of students for work-study programs. Because Xie Qingdu's family was in a difficult situation, she had some impression of him."
“It just so happened that Xie Qingdu was a freshman at that time. I mentioned that you had just enrolled in Yunshan, and that reminded her of this.”
"She said there was a minor conflict at the time, because someone took up a spot for the poverty student subsidy. Later, after someone reported it, they found out that the person whose spot was taken was Xie Qingdu."
“After a while, she remembered me, but we didn’t really interact.”
Lou Yanchuan said, "Xie Qingdu's parents are both dead. His only living relative is also living in a nursing home, but they are not related by blood because he was adopted by that kind family."
“After Xie Qingdu’s adoptive parents passed away, that distant relative also took him in for a period of time. So after he went to university, he would visit him whenever he had time and help him out.”
"Do you know the name of that sanatorium?" Yan Xun asked.
“That sanatorium seems nice,” Lou Yanchuan said. “Anxin Sanatorium.”
“The fees are beyond Xie Qingdu’s means; this part should be paid by his distant relative,” Lou Yanchuan said.
Since the other party was living in a sanatorium, they naturally did not have the extra energy or money to help Xie Qingdu.
Furthermore, Xie Qingdu is not related to him by blood, so all he can do is adopt Xie Qingdu for a few more years before Xie Qingdu comes of age.
"Do you know what his relative does?"
Lou Yanchuan shook his head, "Lin Wen and Xie Qingdu are not familiar with each other, but he had a lot of hardships growing up, so I have some impression of him."
Yan Xun also knew that it was unrealistic to ask Lin Wen about Xie Qingdu's past.
He was still thinking when he heard the sound of a car downstairs, followed by Shuangshuang's shouting.
Yan Xun sent a message to Du Yun, asking him to complete the game, as the answer might contain clues he needed. He then pushed Lou Yanchuan out of the bedroom with him.
The two had just arrived in the living room in the elevator when they saw Yan Xun's mother carrying some things and holding Shuangshuang's hand as she walked into the living room.
Shuangshuang sat on the sofa with a sigh, clearly suffering greatly from the tutoring.
Yan Xun glanced at the time. "So fast?"
He remembered his father saying that they would be back at least 4 or 5 o'clock.
"She said her stomach hurt and she couldn't sit still," the mother said helplessly. "We had to come back early after less than an hour."
She was carrying a shopping bag in her hand. "I just bought her some snacks, and her stomachache is gone now."
Yan Xun observed her mother's reaction and saw that although she had only been there for less than an hour, she did not look anxious at all, so she knew that her mother had completed her plan for the day.
So the place she went to today was not only close to the tutoring center, but also didn't take too much time?
Yan Xun became increasingly curious about the meaning of the dates marked on the calendar.
He took the shopping bag from his mother and said, "I'll put it in the refrigerator."
"Me too!"
Shuangshuang immediately perked up, jumping up from the sofa and walking with Yanxun to the kitchen, afraid that Yanxun would sneak some snacks when she wasn't looking.
Yan Xun took Shuangshuang to the kitchen, while her mother went upstairs to change into her pajamas. Only Lou Yanchuan remained in the living room.
He opened the refrigerator and put some items that needed to be refrigerated on the top shelf. "Are you really not faking illness?" he asked.
"No, it's not!" Shuangshuang shouted.
"When you're in class, will your mom wait for you outside?" Yan Xun asked.
"Mom?" Shuangshuang was looking at the ice cream that Yan Xun had put in the refrigerator, and said absentmindedly, "No."
"Mom said she's going for a walk outside."
"If she can't come back in time, she'll let me wait for her at the tutoring center for a while." She chuckled as she spoke, "But she'll buy me snacks during that time."
"Have you visited Grandma at the Anxin Nursing Home?" Yan Xun closed the refrigerator door.
"I've seen it." Shuangshuang nodded. "That sanatorium is very large."
How does Grandma look?
“She sits on the bed and offers me apples,” Shuangshuang said seriously. “But there’s another person in the room that I don’t like.”
"Ok?"
"He looks smelly and weird," Shuangshuang said seriously, making a gesture of covering her nose. After saying that, she covered her mouth, looking like she had said something she shouldn't have.
"What? Can't I say this?" Yan Xun asked, looking down.
"No!" Shuangshuang said anxiously, "Mom and Dad said that's impolite!"
She said this to Yan Xun with some urgency, and then gestured for Yan Xun to lower his head.
Yan Xun squatted down and moved closer to Shuangshuang.
Shuangshuang whispered in Yan Xun's ear, "Brother, I'm not lying to you, it really does smell bad."
"But Grandma doesn't seem to be able to smell it."
"I told my parents, and they said I was being impolite," Shuangshuang said, sounding a little aggrieved. "They said I shouldn't talk badly about other people like that."
"But it smells bad."
"Can't smell it?" Yan Xun asked curiously. "Are you sure your parents can't smell it, and that they just don't want to talk about it?"
"No!" Shuangshuang said anxiously, "They really can't smell it!"
“I told him in the car that he smelled bad and was dirty. I felt like I needed to take a shower because I smelled bad too, and Dad got angry.” Shuangshuang became more and more upset as she spoke, feeling both wronged and angry at not being understood. “He said I can’t talk about other people like that.”
"My mother also said that the older brothers and sisters at the nursing home take good care of people, and there is only the fragrance of flowers in the room, not any bad smell."
“They said that uncle looked clean and looked like a scholar,” Shuangshuang said. “They said I must have smelled something wrong.”
“But I didn’t smell wrong!” Shuangshuang said, making a vomiting face. “He smelled really, really bad.”
"What kind of stench?" Yan Xun asked.
Shuangshuang looked at Yan Xun, "Do you believe I'm not lying?"
“Why wouldn’t you believe it?” Yan Xun said. “Maybe Mom and Dad are getting old and their sense of smell isn’t as sharp as yours.”
Shuangshuang nodded at first, then probably thought it wasn't appropriate to say that her parents were old, and said hesitantly, "Shuangshuang's sense of smell isn't that sensitive." She then said to Yan Xun, "It's the smell of things spoiling in the summer."
"It smells like a dead fish..." Shuangshuang said, then shook her head, "No, it smells like a garbage truck, anyway, it's really awful."
"And he was so dirty."
"His hospital bed was completely dark."
"Have you talked to your grandma about it?" Yan Xun asked.
Shuangshuang nodded.
I whispered to Grandma, "Don't you think it smells bad?"
"Grandma said I'll get used to it." Shuangshuang pointed to her head. "Grandma even patted my head and praised me for being so brave."
