Back to the Future 1999: Raining at the Same Time

Chapter 190 You're Not Allowed to Talk, Let Me Talk

Chapter 190 You're Not Allowed to Talk, Let Me Talk

"Whoosh-"

"Thum! Thug! Thumb!"

The human-shaped wooden sign in the training room flashed by, but in that brief moment, three throwing knives precisely pierced the sign's throat, heart, and eyes.

A drop of sweat rolled down the girl's chin, fell to the ground, and shattered.

Lia grabbed the towel draped around her neck and wiped the sweat from her face, then placed her hand on the metal box beside her.

"As easy as pie!"

Three more throwing knives appeared out of thin air in Lia's hand.

Listen carefully to the faint sound of gears turning as the machine operates, and then, before an ordinary person can react, three streaks of silver light fly out and pierce the vital points of the training puppet.

In a private training room where no one other than Lia would normally be present, a burst of somewhat jarring applause suddenly rang out.

Lia frowned and saw that it was that woman who exuded an annoying aura.

“You don’t have to look like that every time we meet, Investigator Lia.”

"I even signed off on the approval for your training room. I think for that alone, I deserve at least a fake smile, don't I?"

Constantine stood at the door, his tone still carrying an air of superior arrogance.

She always seemed to enjoy the feeling of having control over other people's lives and being able to take whatever she wanted from them.

However, Lia, who had been looking at her with hostility, suddenly relaxed, and a variety of emotions, including astonishment, joy, and excitement, burst forth from every cell in her body.

"Besides, I also brought..."

Before Constantine could finish speaking, she felt a gust of wind suddenly blow past her, and the blade hidden in Lia's clothes even lightly grazed her hands, which were folded in front of her.

"elder brother!"

Completely unaware that Constantine was right next to her, Lia suddenly rushed forward and gave Chenxi a bear hug. At the same time, she wrapped her arms around Chenxi's neck and raised her legs to tightly bind Chenxi's waist.

As the hero who pulled her out of the abyss and saved her, Liya dreamed countless days and nights of seeing Chenxi again and proudly telling him about her achievements.

But when we actually met, every cell in my body seemed to have its own consciousness, and I couldn't help but want to stick close to my brother.

As for pride and longing, Liya had already forgotten them the moment Chenxi's scent appeared in the air.

"Ugh, ugh! Ugh!! Ugh!!!"

It was as if all the words were stuck in her throat, with only muffled sobs leaking out from Lia's increasingly tight embrace.

Fortunately, having learned from Anma's experience, Chenxi quickly recovered from the initial shock and steadily supported Liya who was clinging to her.

He gently stroked her head and whispered into her ear, which was rubbing against his face:

"Lia has really grown up."

"She's so big that even her older brother can barely hug her."

Lia's embrace loosened slightly, but she immediately tightened it again, pouting and whimpering in a coquettish tone:

"I don't care, I want my brother to hold me!"

Chenxi chuckled, but then met Constantine's clearly angry gaze, and her face fell as well.

"You're a grown man, don't argue with a child."

After healing the shallow wound, Chenxi didn't want to argue with her any further.

"Hmm, one is an outstanding investigator with a mission completion rate of over 97%, and the other is a suspected 'god' who has close cooperation with various aspects of the Foundation. Offending either one would be a huge loss for the Foundation."

He flicked his fingers, shook off the congealed scabs, and Constantine's face once again wore that incomprehensible smile.

However, in Chenxi's eyes, it only elicited disgust and contempt.

"Let's not go through all that political maneuvering between us. If you're unhappy, just say so. If you're not happy, I might think more highly of you."

"Ah, Mr. Chenxi is joking. The foundation..."

Chenxi raised his hand to interrupt Constantine's impending official lecture, then lifted Liya in his arms and shifted to a more comfortable position to hold her.

"I don't care about any of what you're saying. I'm here to let you know about a few things."

Judging from his tone, it sounded more like a notification than a negotiation. Chenxi's arrogance was no less than Constantine's official air.

"The first thing is that, regardless of what Leah did in the Foundation before, she will be with me from now on."

Feeling a sharp gaze emanating from the little one in Chenxi's arms, seemingly threateningly saying: If you don't agree, you're dead!

Constantine nodded slightly, his smile unchanged. Chenxi could tell at a glance that this meant they hadn't yet crossed the Foundation's line, and with that thought, she spoke even more recklessly.

"This mission brought back quite a few outstanding occultists. I hope they can all be placed under the Si Chen Squad, rather than being pawns that the Foundation can use at will."

This time, Constantine's silence lasted a little longer, but she eventually nodded slowly.

"Of course, I will not allow you to use the surgical techniques that your foundation has engraved on the hearts of its field personnel."

As Chenxi spoke, a slight cracking sound came from Liya's heart.

The sight of the reins, which he had been holding firmly, snapping before his eyes made the vice president involuntarily frown. But when he met Chen Xi's nonchalant gaze, Constantine could only swallow his anger.

"These foundations are all acceptable. Does Mr. Sichen have anything to add?"

Perhaps the two had faced off like this many times before, because Constantine's tone revealed a hint of sarcasm that he would never have shown in other negotiation situations.

Chenxi, understanding the implication in Constantine's words, couldn't help but laugh. Only then did he finally look directly at this dignified vice president.

"There are two missions coming up. One is for investigators Hoffman and Marcus to go to Vienna to track down the Reshaping Hand, and the other is for Wilting to lead a team to Digital Island to make contact and communicate with the people on the island."

"Both of these missions will result in tragedies of varying degrees. If things were to proceed normally, the Foundation's efforts to find a way to cross the torrential rain would also result in irreversible damage to Lucy, the leader of the Laplace Computing Center."

“I want to avoid these tragedies, so I want you to give me the authority to act expediently in the following actions.”

As Chenxi delved deeper into the topic, Constantine's brows furrowed more and more deeply, but just as she was about to say something, Chenxi once again raised her hand to interrupt her.

"You'd better shut up. I don't really want to hear your voice right now. The moment you open your mouth, the stench of your scheming hits me, and it makes me nauseous."

"I will give you the results of this operation directly—a method to help ordinary people get through the torrential rain."

As she spoke, Chenxi raised her hand and pointed to the empty space in front of her. Golden light flowed from her fingertips, drawing what would later be known as the "Hoffman knot".

"Take it. I don't know the specific technical details afterward, but this is the core that is absolutely effective."

"With it, the entire foundation can avoid losing a few people during the La unua cirklo trial phase."

“La…”

Before Constantine could even utter the rest of the incantation in confusion, Chenxi had already covered her mouth with tentacles that sprang out from her side.

"Although you should have died from the moment you plotted to kill Anna and all those children, just so that Virtin could become Sichen."

"But to choose such a solemn occasion as death for this time of year, in this way, I think it's too beneath you, and unworthy of the sins you bear."

Chenxi deliberately severed the end of the tentacle, leaving it inside Constantine's mouth, writhing in its hard-won freedom. Then, she turned and waved.

"No need to thank me. Consider that tentacle a gift from me for your research."

Chenxi must have thought he looked incredibly cool, appearing completely unconcerned and only showing his back. And indeed, that was the case.

But he overlooked the fact that while he had turned around, Lia, who was clinging to him, also turned around at that moment.

Seeing the usually aloof leader with something stuffed in his mouth, looking utterly disheveled, Liya couldn't help but burst into laughter—or rather, she simply couldn't hold back—and would forever remember that sight.

------

It's been a long time since I wrote this book. After looking at the first few chapters, I was surprised to find that it was pretty good, not as bad as I remembered.

This puts additional pressure on me. I don't know how my writing is now, or if my writing style has changed.

I've recently seen people urging me to finish writing my new book, and I haven't had any ideas yet, so I'll come back and finish it.

Now I'm getting ready to start the chapters on Vienna and Digital Island. After I finish those two, we'll see how things go. If I get interested, I'll write a little more, hehe.
