Chapter 1511 The Abyss of Madness
Chapter 1511 The Abyss of Madness
The blazing sun poured down on the bustling streets without any obstruction, and the air was filled with the aroma of food, car exhaust, and the smell of sweat from the crowd.
Chen Jun, Lu Da, and Zhang Tie sat by the window, their light meals already cold.
Chen Jun's hand, holding the chopsticks, hovered in mid-air for a few seconds without moving. His expression remained unchanged, and he didn't even deliberately glance out the window, but the muscles in his back tensed slightly.
“Xiao Lu, Xiao Zhang,” he lowered his voice, speaking steadily but with an undeniable warning, “someone is watching us. Be careful.”
Lu Da was picking up a piece of pork rib when he heard this, and his movements stopped, the meat on his chopsticks almost falling back into his bowl. Zhang Tie instinctively wanted to turn his head away, but he forcibly restrained himself, though his peripheral vision began to quickly scan the bustling crowd outside the glass window.
"Brother Jun, which way? How many?" Lu Da put down the ribs, lowered his voice, and tapped the table unconsciously with his fingers.
Zhang Tie looked over as well, his brows furrowed: "What do we do? Retreat now?"
Chen Jun picked up the herbal tea beside him and took a sip. His gaze seemingly casually fell on a fruit vendor across the street before slowly moving away. "It's broad daylight, and there are so many people on the street," he said calmly, as if analyzing the weather. "The other party shouldn't be so insane as to attack in the street. Let's assess the situation first and not panic."
He put down his teacup, tapping his fingers lightly twice on the table, as if calculating the rhythm. Just as he uttered the words "It's not that bad"—
hum!
The tiny receiver he carried close to his body, connected to a special encrypted frequency band, emitted a barely perceptible vibration. At the same time, inside the very smallest corner of the inside of his non-prescription glasses, a tiny red dot began to flicker rapidly, its brightness instantly increasing to a blinding scarlet!
This is real-time spatial monitoring feedback transmitted by peripheral hacker partners through special channels.
red.
Deadly crisis! It's about to erupt!
Chen Jun's pupils suddenly contracted, and the string of "common sense" in his mind was ruthlessly severed by this red light!
Holy crap!!!
The usually composed man uncharacteristically uttered a curse, his body reacting faster than his mind! He suddenly reached out with both hands, grabbing Lu Da and Zhang Tie by the back of their collars, and with all his might, he yanked his two still-unresponsive companions down without a word, while simultaneously using the recoil to fall to the side!
"Splash!" "Splash!"
The three people tumbled to the ground, chairs and all, in an extremely disheveled but swift manner, knocking over an empty table next to them.
Almost at the same instant their bodies lifted off the seats and touched the ground—
"Da da da da da—!!!"
The rapid and violent gunfire, like the drumbeats of death, abruptly tore apart the afternoon's clamor! The bullets came from an inconspicuous corner across the street, piercing through the open window and thin curtains, pouring in like a torrent!
Where they had just been sitting, sawdust flew everywhere, dishes shattered, and soup and food scraps mixed with wall dust from bullet holes were splattered all over the place!
"what--!!!"
"Help!"
"Murder—!"
After a brief silence, the restaurant erupted in terrified screams and cries. Other customers and staff, who were dining or waiting, were thrown into chaos. Some collapsed to the floor in fear, others instinctively crawled under tables, and many more, like headless flies, screamed and shoved their way towards the door, overturning more tables and chairs, creating an extremely chaotic scene.
Chen Jun and his two companions were trapped beneath the crowd and tables, bullets whizzing overhead. Lu Da and Zhang Tie were deathly pale, their hearts pounding, their ears ringing. If they had been even half a second slower…
Before they could even recover from the shock of the first wave of attacks—
"Splash—!!!"
The huge glass window facing the street finally shattered under the weight of a barrage of bullets and the jostling of the crowd! Countless shards of glass rained down, triggering another round of screams.
Amidst the flying shards of glass, a dark, fist-sized object was precisely tossed in through the window. It traced a low, flat arc and rolled into the center of the messy floor, just a few steps away from the scattering crowd!
Lu Da happened to be peeking out from the edge of an overturned table. The moment his eyes fell on that thing, his eyes widened and his blood seemed to turn cold!
"Damn it—!! A grenade!!!"
He roared out, his voice distorted!
Chen Jun reacted with lightning speed. He didn't even have time to look. At the same instant Lu Da shouted, he roared again, "Go!!"
With a renewed burst of strength, he practically dragged the tumbling and crawling Lu Da and Zhang Tie, using the overturned tables and chairs on the ground and the panicked crowd as cover, and with all his might, he rolled and tumbled towards the kitchen entrance at the deepest part of the restaurant!
They had just tumbled awkwardly through the greasy kitchen curtain—
"BOOM—!!!"
Behind them, a deafening explosion suddenly erupted! Even through the walls and the distance, the violent shockwave still made the entire restaurant building tremble violently! Dust fell from the kitchen ceiling, and pots and pans clattered and rattled.
After the loud explosion, there was a brief buzzing sound. Then, what came from the hall outside was no longer just screams, but a much more shrill wail mixed with painful groans!
"My leg... ah!"
"Save me...my child, my child..."
"Mom...Mom..."
The smell of gunpowder mixed with the stench of blood began to permeate the air, even through the curtain.
Chen Jun knelt on the wet, slippery kitchen floor, his back against the cold stove, breathing heavily. Lu Da and Zhang Tie sat slumped beside him, their faces deathly pale. Zhang Tie's arm was cut by flying glass, blood gushing out, but he seemed oblivious to the pain, staring intently at the swaying curtain and listening to the hellish sounds outside.
Chen Jun's face was so dark it seemed to drip water; his jaw was clenched, and the muscles in his cheeks bulged. He slammed his fist hard on the iron cutting board next to him, making a dull thud.
“Madmen…a bunch of complete madmen!” he spat out through clenched teeth, each word dripping with chilling rage. “The Abyss…utterly inhuman! In broad daylight! In the middle of the city! In the most crowded place! They actually dared to use guns! They dared to throw grenades!”
He took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing his boiling killing intent and rage. His eyes regained their sharpness, but the chill within them was even greater. He pressed down on the still trembling Lu Da and the injured Zhang Tie, his voice low and resolute: "You two, stay here and provide cover. Don't show yourselves."
“Brother Jun, you…” Lu Da looked at him, with a bad feeling.
Chen Jun didn't answer. His gaze swept quickly across the messy kitchen, landing on a heavy cleaver beside the cutting board, its blade gleaming coldly. He strode over, grabbed it, weighed it in his hand, and gripped the handle tightly. The ordinary steel knife, in his hand, seemed to possess a different kind of ferocious aura.
"I'll deal with them."
After saying that, he stopped looking at his two companions' astonished expressions, lowered his body slightly, and like a cheetah ready to pounce, suddenly lifted the curtain and charged out into the smoke, screams, and bullets that could be fired again at any moment!
"Director Chen—!!!" Lu Da shouted subconsciously, his eyes wide open. He was completely dumbfounded when he saw Chen Jun rushing into the scene of an attack that might involve automatic weapons and grenades, carrying a kitchen knife.
Zhang Tie struggled to his feet, wincing in pain from his wound. He saw a long, sharp boning knife hanging in the corner and reached for it, yelling, "Damn it! Let's go! What are you standing there for? Let's go too!"
"Are you crazy!" Lu Da grabbed Zhang Tie's uninjured arm tightly with astonishing strength. "Do you think we have the kind of freakish skills that Director Chen possesses?! What's going on outside?! Guns! Grenades! Are we going out to help or to cause trouble?! To be a burden to Director Chen?!"
He was panting heavily, his eyes bloodshot with a mixture of fear and anger: "Hurry! Contact the brothers! Notify command center! Request backup! Seal off the scene! Evacuate the crowd! That's what we should be doing right now! Quickly!"
He took out his phone, his fingers still trembling from fear and nervousness, and he almost dropped it several times.
Zhang Tie calmed down a bit after being yelled at. Looking out the curtain and listening to the endless screams and the sporadic gunshots that might still be ringing out in the distance, he gritted his teeth and finally gave up the idea of rushing out. He also quickly took out his communication device.
"Damn it..." Lu Da roared from his throat as he dialed the number rapidly, his voice filled with deep hatred and chilling rage, "Abyss... those sons of bitches... fuck!"
