Chapter 1486 Philanthropic Tycoon
Chapter 1486 Philanthropic Tycoon
As Chen Jun listened to the faint, rapidly subdued noises coming from outside, he shifted his gaze from Lin Sicong, who was nearly exhausted from the pain and fear at his feet and whose eyes were unfocused.
He lifted his foot as if he were merely moving a stray stone.
“Now that the officers from the law enforcement bureau have arrived,” he said calmly to Captain Gao and Lao Wen as they approached, as if he were instructing them on a routine official business, “let’s follow procedure and take all the people involved here back for a thorough interrogation.”
He paused, his gaze seemingly casually sweeping over the thugs on the ground who had been quickly subdued and handcuffed by the police, and over the ashen-faced Lin Sicong, before adding a sentence in a low voice that sent chills down the spines of those who heard it:
"In addition, these people's household registrations should all be cancelled."
“From today onwards, they will be unregistered in our internal files.”
The words "unregistered resident" came out of his mouth lightly, yet carried a weight heavier than a thousand pounds. This meant more than just losing legal status; it meant being completely erased from normal social records and regulatory systems, with no one caring about his life, death, honor, or disgrace, and no one able to investigate him.
Lying sprawled on the ground, Lin Sicong was in excruciating pain and his consciousness was fading, but those words pierced his last vestiges of awareness like an ice pick. His body trembled uncontrollably, not from pain, but from fear. What filled him with even greater despair was that, out of the corner of his eye, he glimpsed that the police captain leading the team, Captain Gao, and Director Wen, after hearing this young man's "outrageous" order, showed not the slightest surprise or doubt, but instead… nodded solemnly!
"Yes, sir!" Captain Gao respectfully handed the dark blue badge back to Chen Jun with both hands.
Chen Jun casually took it, didn't even look at it, and stuffed it into his pocket. Then, he strode towards the company gate, his steps steady, as if nothing had happened. As he passed Lao Wen, he uttered his last words, his voice soft but clearly reaching Lao Wen and Captain Gao's ears:
"Clean this place up."
"Take the person back to the station."
"I'll go over this afternoon."
The word "trial" wasn't used; instead, it referred to "the past." The tone was calm, yet it conveyed absolute control.
"Understood!" Old Wen and Captain Gao responded almost simultaneously, their bodies instinctively straightening even more.
Chen Jun's figure disappeared at the elevator entrance.
Inside the office area, only the sounds of police officers busily controlling the scene, confiscating weapons, and handcuffing people, along with the suppressed sobs of a few less-than-resilient thugs, filled the air. The usually arrogant "employees" of Dingsheng Company were now ashen-faced, their eyes vacant, filled with despair. Meanwhile, the police officers brought by Captain Gao, while carrying out orders, couldn't help but exchange suspicious glances out of the corner of their eyes. Just who was this young man with the terrifying aura who could turn someone into an undocumented immigrant with a single sentence?
But no matter how they speculated, one thing was common to everyone who witnessed that scene:
This man is extremely, extremely terrifying.
Hotel room.
Chen Jun had just taken a shower, changed into clean and comfortable casual clothes, and was drying his wet hair when there was a knock on the door.
"Come in."
Old Wen pushed open the door and entered, his face bearing a mixture of relief after completing his mission and a strange, indescribable expression.
"Boss, we've dropped Lin Sicong," Old Wen reported.
"Oh? So fast?" Chen Jun was a little surprised and draped the towel over his shoulder.
Old Wen's lips twitched, his expression becoming even stranger: "He did drop it. But... he made a condition."
"condition?"
"He said... he could tell you everything he knew, spill the beans, without holding back a single word." Old Wen imitated Lin Sicong's tearful and fearful tone at the time, "But... there's a condition..."
"explain."
"He said... could you... not have to interrogate him again?" Old Wen said, feeling a bit absurd himself, and cautiously looked at Chen Jun's face. "He said... when he sees you, he... he can't control himself and feels like he's going to faint, his mind goes blank, and he can't remember anything. Only when you're not around can he calm down and confess..."
Chen Jun paused in drying his hair, a rare look of speechlessness appearing on his face.
"Does this spoiled brat think I'm that scary?"
Old Wen nodded very firmly, his expression serious: "Boss, it's not just in his eyes... it's really terrifying. To be honest, when you broke his second hand and said 'illegal resident' in front of the police... my legs were trembling. The aura you exuded... tsk, it's fine if you keep it under control, but once you let it out, let alone a rich kid like him, even I... would be in trouble."
Chen Jun shook his head, too lazy to dwell on the matter. "Get to the point, what did he confess?"
Old Wen's expression turned serious: "It's pretty much what you predicted. Lin Sicong's level is simply not qualified to directly contact the 'Abyss' organization. Dingsheng Shipping and him are actually just a front for 'General's' development in China, responsible for using shipping channels to facilitate 'General's' smuggling, money laundering, and the transfer of some personnel and materials. General's own armed forces and strongholds were wiped out by your team at the border last time, so this line is already half-crippled."
He paused, lowered his voice, and said with a hint of excitement and seriousness, "However, Lin Sicong dropped a bombshell that we had no idea about before!"
"what?"
"He said that the general's most important financial and channel supporters in East Asia are not from the local area, nor are they some of the transnational criminal groups we previously suspected," Old Wen said, emphasizing each word. "But rather, it is a... philanthropist who came from the mainland and is very well-known in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and even the entire Southeast Asian Chinese community!"
"A philanthropic tycoon?" Chen Jun's eyes instantly sharpened like knives.
"Yes! On the surface, he's a famous entrepreneur and philanthropist who regularly donates to build schools and hospitals and sponsors impoverished students. He appears at various charity galas and in the media, projecting a very positive image. But based on the scattered information provided by Lin Sicong and some traces of financial transactions, this person is very likely one of the real financial backers behind 'General,' and may even be an important cover and contact person for 'Abyss' organization's activities in East Asia!"
"Hmph!" Chen Jun let out a short, cold laugh, a laugh filled with a cynical sneer and chilling murderous intent. "Apart from a very few pure idealists, those businessmen and officials who are keen on charitable donations all day long, especially those who like to throw money around at temples and Taoist monasteries, if you investigate them thoroughly, nine and a half out of ten are not clean! They are either seeking peace of mind and washing away their sins, or they are using charity as a pretext for bribery, money laundering, and cultivating relationships with powerful people! True kindness is not something to be flaunted like this!"
Old Wen nodded in deep agreement: "The boss is right. We must investigate this philanthropist's identity immediately! This could be a key clue to uncovering the higher-ups in the Abyss Organization!"
He immediately asked for instructions: "Boss, what should we do next? Where should we start to find the tail of the abyss as quickly as possible?"
Chen Jun walked to the window, looking at the bustling city outside. His eyes were deep, as if he could see through the jungle of steel and concrete and see the undercurrents hidden beneath.
He paused for a moment, then slowly spoke, his voice steady and decisive:
"First, set off immediately for Dingsheng Shipping's headquarters. Lin Sicong's company is just a trading company; his real core and stronghold must be at the shipping terminal and their headquarters. There might be more direct evidence and clues there, or there might be connections to the 'Abyss' that he is unaware of."
“Second,” he turned around, his gaze sharp as lightning, “Immediately activate all resources of the Strategic Bureau. Closely monitor that 'philanthropic tycoon' and all those associated with him, his businesses, and the flow of funds. At the same time, raise the security alert level for ourselves and all related personnel.”
His tone became more serious, carrying a sense of impending doom:
“We’ve destroyed the ‘General’s’ power, and now we’ve taken down their key front man in the country, and even uncovered clues about their financial backer…”
"The Abyss Organization will not stand idly by."
"To prevent them from resorting to desperate measures and launching a frantic counterattack."
"From now on, everyone must be on high alert."
"The war has begun."
