Chapter 544 Can Be Solved Now
Chapter 544 Can Be Solved Now
His impulsiveness just now gave him almost no time to think about the consequences. It was not until the man ran into the darkness that he realized that he seemed to have gone too far. If the robber really had a weapon, things would become much more complicated and might even turn into a life-and-death struggle.
He dared not think any further. Instead, he felt a sense of oppression, as if invisible eyes were constantly watching him. The feeling of being watched seeped into his every nerve like poison. The danger he felt from the robber was like an unhealed wound, constantly oozing with anxiety and doubt.
"Damn, what a hassle," he muttered to himself.
He fished a cigarette from his trouser pocket, lit it, and took a deep drag. The smoke quickly filled the air, bringing a brief moment of comfort. But the unease lingered. He gritted his teeth and tried to calm himself—he had done nothing wrong. The woman was unharmed, and the robber hadn't succeeded. Even if his heart was still beating a little fast, at least he hadn't made a fatal mistake.
"But why is he so calm?" Su Ming suddenly realized he was confused. The robber's attitude was unusual. He wasn't panicking, nor was he afraid of being interrupted. Instead, he was filled with a certain patience, as if he knew he wouldn't be truly threatened.
Why didn't that person attack him directly? If Su Ming hadn't appeared just now, the woman might have had her bag snatched away, and things might have become more complicated.
"Is someone manipulating this?" This thought came to Su Ming's mind. His heartbeat suddenly accelerated. He was no longer the young man who could handle everything calmly. The complex situation and the layers of undercurrents made him begin to doubt that he was deeply trapped.
"Don't think too much, calm down." He told himself in a firm tone, like self-hypnosis.
He quickened his pace, moving away from that unsettling corner. The streets were now deserted, the silence uncomfortably still. Every step he took seemed to lead him into a darker world. Su Ming couldn't help but glance around nervously, fearing some hidden threat might suddenly appear.
Just as he reached an intersection, he saw the familiar black car. It was still parked there, as quiet as if it had blended into the night, with its lights off, windows closed, and no movement.
He stopped, a strange unease welling up in his heart. "It can't be such a coincidence," he muttered, his heart racing, his eyes involuntarily fixed on the car. The robbery just now seemed to have added even more mystery to the mystery.
Instead of going over, he walked slowly along the other side of the street, glancing at the car from time to time, trying to keep a distance. Although he knew deep down that he might be being targeted, he was unwilling to give up the opportunity to find answers. Everything that had happened today had made him alert and uneasy. He could no longer act rashly as before.
Suddenly, a light flashed from inside the car. Su Ming paused slightly, almost subconsciously quickening his pace. However, before he had taken a few steps, the car door quietly opened.
A familiar figure walked out of the car. It was the man, the robber who had just confronted him on the street.
"He's actually here." Su Ming's heart skipped a beat, as astonishment and confusion surged through him. There seemed to be some unexplainable connection between this man and the black car.
The moment the man saw Su Ming, he didn't seem surprised. Instead, he smiled faintly. There was a hint of provocation in that smile, as if he knew what Su Ming was thinking, as if he had everything under control.
"You are here too." The man's tone was calm, as if the two had never been apart.
"Who are you?" Su Ming's voice was a little nervous. He felt an indescribable sense of oppression. His intuition told him that the person in front of him was not simple, and this was far more than a simple street robbery.
The man didn't answer immediately. Instead, he walked towards Su Ming, his steps slow and steady, as if time had become particularly long. Every step seemed to close the distance between them.
"Do you still remember me?" the man asked, his tone full of meaningful amusement.
Su Ming frowned, thought for a moment, and suddenly, he was startled. He seemed to have seen this person somewhere before, but he couldn't remember where. The person's face was familiar, even somewhat familiar, but Su Ming couldn't recall where he had seen him before.
"I... don't remember," he confessed, his tone hesitant.
The man didn't seem to mind Su Ming's reaction. Instead, he smiled and said, "It's okay. Memory is sometimes just like that." After he said that, he was silent for a while. His eyes swept across Su Ming's face, as if he could see through every subtle expression on his face.
"Do you think everything is weird? Something is wrong?" The man suddenly spoke, breaking the silence.
Su Ming's heartbeat quickened again, as if this man knew all the doubts in his heart. "What do you want to say?"
The man didn't answer, but just smiled. "You're still so impulsive, always wanting to be ahead, eager to solve the mystery." He said with a deep look in his eyes, "But there are some things that you can't solve right now."
Su Ming took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down: "Who are you? What is your relationship with that car?"
The man shook his head slightly, seeming somewhat interested in the question. "You and I are a bit alike." He paused, as if searching for the right words. "We're both pawns trapped in this game, though you may not fully realize it yet."
"Game?" Su Ming was stunned for a moment. "What do you want to say?"
The man suddenly walked up to Su Ming and whispered, "Su Ming, do you feel like you're already deeply trapped and can't extricate yourself? Let me tell you, things are far more complicated than you imagine. And you're being led towards an outcome from which you can't turn back."
Su Ming's heart beat faster and faster, as if every pulse beat reminded him: This man before him was no ordinary person. Although he didn't seem to pose a clear threat, his calm and composed aura, as if in control of everything, made him nervous. Especially the man's words, "We are all pawns," sounded like a warning bell, sending a strange chill through Su Ming.
He forced himself to remain calm, took a deep breath, and finally made up his mind: "You are right, I do have a lot of questions, but I don't intend to let you play with these mysteries in front of me." He approached the man step by step, his voice low and resolute.
