Chapter 632: A King Is Still a King
Chapter 632: A King Is Still a King
A few minutes later, Obilian arrives at the residence district with his men. From a distance, he sees Clifford negotiating with the Western Regions guards at the residence gate.
No matter how politely Clifford speaks, the guards at the gate refuse to let him in.
The time Wizet gave is almost up, and they are clearly prepared to fight.
Clifford is covered in sweat, anxiously explaining the stakes to the guards at the gate.
Just as he grows frantic, horn calls ring out. Obilian has arrived in person.
Obilian comes to the gate. "What is going on? Why are you not letting the Grand Marshal enter?"
The guard at the gate says, "No one enters without orders."
Obilian frowns. "Not even me?"
"Not even you."
Obilian takes a few steps forward. The guard at the gate raises his longsword and presses it against Obilian's chest armor. "Step back."
Obilian freezes for a moment, then slowly steps back.
Everyone around watches this scene, unable to stop smiles from appearing.
Soon, however, they can no longer smile.
Obilian takes a few steps back and gently waves a hand. Two figures flash out instantly.
Before anyone can see them clearly, the heads of several Western Regions guards at the gate fly into the air.
Beside the headless corpses stand two middle-aged men wearing armor marked with ancient patterns.
"Duchy guardians!"
Someone recognizes them. They are two of the three Iron Knights who guard the Lumir royal family.
Only after the two guardians step aside does Obilian slowly move forward. "Holy Lake Knights, hear my order."
"Disarm everyone inside the residence. If anyone resists, kill them without mercy. Leave no one alive."
Watching Obilian advance steadily into the residence under the protection of elite soldiers, the expressions on everyone's faces turn grave.
This is bad.
Lumir is about to have an iron-blooded king.
Two guardians open the way. Behind them are more than ten Grand Knights, and behind those are the Holy Lake Knights and the elites of the guard army.
As Obilian ordered, anyone who tries to stop them is cut down on the spot.
Stepping over corpses and blood, Obilian enters the hall where Henwell is.
Seeing the several men still facing off, Obilian frowns. "Put down your weapons first. Fighting is forbidden here."
At that moment, one of the Grand Knights under Leopold shouts, "How dare you kill our people? Insolent..."
Before he can finish, Obilian waves a hand, and the man is killed on the spot by a guardian.
Leopold roars, "What are you doing?"
Obilian pulls over a chair and sits down. "I am killing people. Did you not see?"
Leopold takes a step forward, and the two guardians also step forward, ready to stop him.
But Obilian waves them back. "Leopold, yes? You are from the Hawk family."
"What? Are you going to kill me? Or humiliate me?"
"What do you intend to do to me, a man of the Groias imperial bloodline?"
Leopold stops and stares fixedly at Obilian.
Obilian seems to have no intention of letting him go. "If I remember correctly, you are a count of the Empire."
"According to imperial rules, when you meet a member of the imperial family, should you not bow and offer greetings?"
"Why do I see no such intention from you? Has the Groias Empire fallen? Or has your Hawk family rebelled?"
Leopold takes a deep breath. "Leopold, forty-seventh head of the Hawk family and count, greets Your Highness."
Obilian points at the corpse beside him. "Good. This man, like the guards outside, tried to attack me directly."
"According to imperial law, anyone who attacks a member of the imperial family must be stripped of title, and the main line of his family is to be scorched to death under the blazing sun."
"Am I wrong?"
Leopold grits his teeth. "You are not wrong. But..."
Obilian waves a hand. "No buts. Report it to the Imperial Inspectorate in the Western Federation."
"But. See? Only I may say 'but.'"
"But I am softhearted. Considering that they once rendered service to the Empire, I will exempt the main lines of their families from punishment."
"Only their titles need to be stripped. I will personally send a letter about this to the Imperial Inspectorate."
"Count, tell me. Have I not already been merciful enough?"
Leopold nearly shatters his teeth from clenching them. He squeezes out a few words. "Your Highness is indeed merciful."
Obilian nods lightly. "Since you know I am merciful, why are you not thanking me?"
"Thank... you... Your Highness."
Obilian turns to Graham. "City lord, do you have any objection?"
Graham panics a little, then immediately smiles. "Your Highness has done very well. May my lord protect Your Highness."
Obilian smiles. "Hehe. Of course he must protect me. He is our ancestor, after all."
Then Obilian looks at Henwell. "Henwell, what are you doing now?"
Henwell sheathes his longswords. "Replying to Your Majesty, this foreign subject is exchanging martial pointers with City Lord Leopold."
Obilian turns to ask the other two men, "Is that so?"
Graham smiles apologetically. "That is so. We have not seen Henwell for a long time. When we heard that he had broken through to Iron Knight, we wanted to test him."
Leopold lowers his head. "Your Highness, our movements were a little too large and disturbed you. For that, we apologize."
Obilian nods lightly and stands. "Good. I thought you intended to make a scene in Holy Lake City before my coronation ceremony."
"If so, then you would be insulting Lumir's royal authority and the Empire's imperial bloodline. All of you would have to die here."
With that, Obilian turns to leave. At the door, he looks back. "Henwell, come with me."
Henwell shrugs and follows behind him.
Once they have walked some distance, Obilian asks in a low voice, "Henwell, did they follow?"
Henwell glances back in confusion. "No. That old thing Leopold is shaking with rage."
Obilian raises a hand and rests it on Henwell's arm. "Support me. I am about to start shaking too."
Henwell rolls his eyes. So after showing off for so long, you were still scared.
"Where did that kingly dominance from earlier go?"
"Stop talking. You bastard. If not for you, why would I have offended them?"
"Am I stupid? They are clearly planning to support your elder brother and split Lumir."
"You were already enemies. You merely took the chance while I was present to vent your anger properly."
"At the same time, you made me an enemy of the Western Federation so I cannot join hands with them again."
"Henwell, can you really defeat those two?"
Henwell raises an eyebrow. "Why not have your royal guardians help me hold Graham back?"
"I guarantee that old thing Leopold can lie in a coffin today."
"Forget it. You are just bragging."
"Your Majesty, no matter how much I brag, can I match what you did just now?"
"I was not bragging. All of it was fact."
Henwell laughs. "What a coincidence. I was not bragging either. I was telling the truth too."
When everyone sees Obilian come out holding Henwell's arm and chatting with him cheerfully, they understand that this grand show has ended.
