Chapter 387: I got the case wrong but was rewarded and promoted

In this complex and ever-changing real world, unexpected things often happen.

Sometimes, even if investigators make extreme mistakes by disregarding human life, which leads to the case being handled incorrectly, they can still be rewarded with meritorious service, various awards, or even promotion.

If the leader says you are capable, then you are capable; if the leader says you are not capable, then you are not capable, but there is still room for discussion.

This kind of promotion based on mistakes or even promotion despite illness always makes people feel confused and helpless.

After listening to Liu Yuan's case report, Secretary Zhou of the Political and Legal Committee's face became very gloomy, with sparks of anger flashing in his eyes.

He slammed the table hard and shouted, "He handled the case wrongly, but was still rewarded and promoted. This is extremely irresponsible to the people!" His voice was full of indignation and dissatisfaction.

Secretary Zhou realized that this was by no means an isolated case, but a reflection of the style and discipline of the entire political and legal system.

Considering the recent progress of the special task force of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, he keenly realized that this was an excellent opportunity, a time to launch a comprehensive campaign to rectify work styles and enforce discipline throughout Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.

The action aims to rectify unhealthy practices within the political and legal teams, improve work efficiency and quality, and ensure judicial justice and social stability.

Secretary Zhou is well aware that this campaign to rectify work styles and strengthen discipline is not only a self-purification within the political and legal system, but also an important measure to demonstrate the government's determination to the outside world.

By strictly investigating and punishing illegal and disciplinary violations, strengthening education and training, and supervision and management, we will enhance the professional quality and legal awareness of police officers and thus build a loyal, clean, and responsible political and legal team.

At the same time, Secretary Zhou also hopes that this action will serve as a wake-up call to those who attempt to interfere with judicial justice.

In particular, we must make it clear to the localist deputy secretary and others that any attempt to undermine the rule of law will be severely punished.

Only in this way can we maintain social fairness and justice and protect the legitimate rights and interests of the people.

Under the leadership of Secretary Zhou, the public security, procuratorial, judicial and judicial systems of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces took quick action, and an unprecedented campaign to rectify work styles and enforce discipline was launched across the province.

Political and legal organs at all levels responded to the call and actively participated in the rectification campaign.

Through various means such as self-inspection and self-correction, special inspections, open and secret investigations, etc., we can thoroughly find out the existing problems and implement timely rectification.

Any illegal or disciplinary violations discovered will be investigated and dealt with resolutely and will not be tolerated.

This campaign to rectify work styles and enforce discipline is like a gust of fresh wind that has blown away the haze in the political and legal system, allowing people to see the government's firm belief in and determination to build the rule of law.

At the same time, the general public has felt real changes and strengthened their trust and support for the political and legal authorities.

I believe that under the leadership of Secretary Zhou, the political and legal work in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces will usher in new development opportunities and provide strong legal guarantees for economic and social development.

After self-examination and self-correction, Huang, who was suspected of murdering his wife, was finally acquitted.

At almost the same time, a similar case occurred in Nanhang City.

The protagonists in this case are Zhang Ahui and Zhang Erping, who are uncle and nephew.

As they were involved in a rape and murder case in Nanhang, the two were sentenced to death, two-year reprieve, and fifteen years' imprisonment respectively.

Event Details

The person involved, Zhang Erping, recalled that he and his nephew Zhang Ahui drove an Anhui J Jiefang truck to Shanghai.

An underage girl named Wang was introduced by others and took their ride to Nanhang.

Wang was originally going to get off at Nanhang West Station and be picked up by his brother-in-law.

They usually take the ring road to Shanghai.

Considering that Wang was just a little girl, Zhang Erping was worried and asked his nephew to take her to Hangzhou West Railway Station.

However, after arriving at the West Station, no one came to pick up Wang. The other party asked her to take a taxi to a place near Qianjiang Third Bridge and then contact him.

Finally, after letting Wang get off at the overpass, they continued driving towards Shanghai.

But a few days later, the two were suddenly arrested by Nanhang police.

It turned out that the Huxi District Branch of the Nanhang Public Security Bureau received a report that a female corpse was found in a ditch in Huxi District. The female corpse was Wang, the woman who hitchhiked with them.

The public security authorities initially determined that Zhang Ahui and Zhang Erping, who drove the victim that night, were major suspects in the crime.

During the public security investigation and interrogation process, due to various disguised forms of torture, Zhang Erping and Zhang Ahui were forced to confess that they had raped and killed Wang in the driver's seat of a truck that night, and then dumped the body on the roadside.

Afterwards, the Nanhang Intermediate People's Court sentenced Zhang Ahui to death and Zhang Erping to life imprisonment for rape. The two appealed.

Half a year later, the Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provincial High Court sentenced Zhang Ahui to suspended death sentence and Zhang Erping to 15 years' imprisonment in the final instance.

Since then, both men in prison have maintained their innocence.

After review and comparison, the DNA sample extracted from the victim's fingernails revealed that the "real murderer" had been executed by firing squad as early as 2005 in connection with the sensational murder of a female college student in Nanhang.

The uncle and nephew of the Zhang family were released without charge.
