Chapter 229 The Laboratory (2)
Chapter 229 The Laboratory (2)
Soon, Ji Lang also entered the sea of sand again. Similar to Gu Nanfeng's situation before, Ji Lang also strayed from the path several times, but Lin Yun corrected him in time each time.
"How's the situation?" Pei Sihao asked when he felt the rope had been released to about the same length as Gu Nanfeng's.
"There's nothing there..." Ji Lang had barely finished speaking when he felt his hand being grabbed by another hand.
"Nothing?" Pei Sihao asked quickly when Ji Lang's voice suddenly stopped.
However, Pei Sihao was met with two ropes that had loosened again, and Ji Lang had also disappeared.
"Gu Nanfeng! Ji Lang!" Pei Sihao shouted, but there was still no response from inside the protective mask.
“They should be safe inside.” Lu Yuan picked up the two ropes that had been pulled back from the ground. The loops on the ropes were intact, indicating that they had loosened them themselves.
"But!" Pei Sihao was a little anxious. Gu Nanfeng had disappeared, and Ji Lang had also disappeared. No matter how much he had experienced in the past six months, he could not remain calm.
"Dr. Lu, attempt complete, unable to connect..." The system's voice rang out within everyone's protective shield.
"It seems it's not that they don't want to contact us, but rather that something inside is blocking the communication network built by the system," Lu Yuan's voice rang out again.
"I'll go in." Lin Yun took the rope from Lu Yuan's hand and prepared to fasten it around his waist.
"No, you stay here, I'll go in." Pei Sihao stopped Lin Yun. On one hand, he had to go in to see if Gu Nanfeng was alive or dead. On the other hand, if something happened to them, Lin Yun had to stay behind to protect Lu Yuan and the others as they left.
"If I'm in the same situation, find a safe place and wait for our news. If we don't hear from you in two days, return to the South China base." Pei Sihao instructed Lin Yun after fastening his safety buckle.
“I’ll go too!” Pei Sihao was about to enter when he saw Yang Xiao beside him had also tied two ropes, with Lu Yuan pulling at the other end of the ropes. Clearly, Lu Yuan had provided the two ropes.
“We don’t know what’s going on inside, you can’t take the risk.” Lin Yun tried to stop Yang Xiao, but Pei Sihao stopped him.
“Then let’s go in together.” Pei Sihao said, extending his hand to Yang Xiao.
"Mm!" Yang Xiao grasped Pei Sihao's hand in return. Although it might seem strange for two men to walk hand in hand normally, they had to keep in sync at this moment, so there were no such formalities.
Since there were only three people left outside, Zhong Qiang and Lin Yun each held onto the two ropes in front to help them determine their direction, while Lu Yuan stood behind and held onto one rope for each of them.
On the other side, Gu Nanfeng and Ji Lang stood together beside a table that was over two meters long and one meter wide. In front of them was the same protective shield as in the previous illusion, and inside the shield was the box that Gu Nanfeng had met once before.
"Why did you untie the rope?" Ji Lang asked.
“I need someone to help me, but I’ve called out several times and no one has responded.” Gu Nanfeng placed his hands on the table, looking at the protective shield, and continued, “So I guess there’s something here blocking our communication network.”
"So you untied the ropes, making us think something was wrong with you, and then let people in?" Ji Lang stroked his chin, thought for a moment, and said, "That's one method."
"Otherwise, why didn't you let go of your rope?" Gu Nanfeng shook his head with a smile. He had expected Ji Lang to come in, but he didn't expect the guy to come in empty-handed without any preparation. So, they had no choice but to untie the rope again.
"Hopefully, the little note wasn't swept away by the sandstorm this time." Ji Lang looked at the sky. After Gu Nanfeng pulled him over, he could no longer see the sandstorm. The entire laboratory had returned to normal. Gu Nanfeng had written a little note and tied it to the rope, but it must have disappeared while the rope was being pulled out, so they didn't see it.
"Gu Nanfeng! Where are you?" Soon, Gu Nanfeng and Ji Lang heard Pei Sihao's voice.
Gu Nanfeng looked in the direction of the sound, but at first he couldn't see anything. It wasn't until Pei Sihao's voice got closer that they could see the outlines of two human figures. Then Pei Sihao's figure became more and more obvious, and there was Yang Xiao holding his hand next to him.
Soon, they saw Pei Sihao and Yang Xiao walking quickly towards them. But clearly, their view was still filled with the endless yellow sand, and they couldn't see Gu Nanfeng and Ji Lang not far away.
When Pei Sihao and Yang Xiao were less than a step away from them, Gu Nanfeng and Ji Lang were finally able to grab their hands. In just an instant, Pei Sihao and Yang Xiao emerged from the swirling yellow sand and were greeted by a laboratory that they knew all too well—the same laboratory from the illusion.
"Here you go!" Seeing that Gu Nanfeng was alright, Pei Sihao didn't ask any more questions and simply placed the backpack he had brought in on the table.
"The note didn't fall this time?" Ji Lang couldn't help but sigh as he looked at the backpack on the table.
"What little note?" After seeing that Ji Lang was alright, Yang Xiao's expression returned to calm. He walked away nonchalantly and went to observe the box covered by the protective shield. Hearing Ji Lang's question, he raised his head in confusion.
"It's a little note written by Gu Nanfeng. We can't communicate with the outside world at all from here, so we tied this little note to a rope and let it out for you," Ji Lang said, pointing to a pen and a stack of A4 paper on the table.
"Then you really have to thank Lu Yuan." Yang Xiao curled his lip and continued, "We didn't see any little note at all. Lu Yuan told us to bring the backpack in."
Gu Nanfeng didn't join their conversation. After getting the backpack, he opened it and was about to take out what he needed when he heard them say they didn't see his note. He couldn't help but worry whether he had brought everything.
"Didn't you bring everything? I'll go out and get it." Pei Sihao saw Gu Nanfeng's hands pause and went over to him. There were many people inside, so it wouldn't be a problem to go out and come back in.
“I have everything I need.” With that, Gu Nanfeng took out his laptop, his usual brand. A closer look revealed that all the devices inside were ones he always carried with him. But this bag in front of him was clearly something Lu Yuan had prepared for them on the helicopter.
Before entering, he assumed everyone's backpacks contained the same water and compressed biscuits, which was why he hadn't brought any with him. He had simply placed them casually at Lu Yuan's feet. Now it seemed Lu Yuan couldn't have prepared these so quickly; they must have been placed there beforehand. Lu Yuan knew his habits far too well.
Gu Nanfeng didn't have time to think too much. He moved all the equipment out and then discovered that there was something extra in his bag: a dark, three-dimensional triangle that he couldn't tell at a glance what it was for.
