Chapter 110 Port City (3)
Chapter 110 Port City (3)
Lu Yuan and Ji Lang never imagined that they would be fooled by two immature kids.
Twenty minutes ago
With the combined comfort of the heater and air conditioner, Ji Lang finally recovered from the cold. Lu Yuan found him a set of warm clothes to replace his stiff, frozen ones.
The two sat inside the yacht, lost in thought. They weren't talkative people, nor were they close enough to chat. Therefore, the atmosphere inside the yacht was unusually oppressive, even more unbearable than the snowstorm outside.
"Bang bang bang!" Suddenly, a knock on the door broke the silence.
Lu Yuan was idly scrolling through his spatial interface when he heard a knock on the cabin door. He looked up at Ji Lang sitting opposite him and asked, "You and your teammates are here too?"
Ji Lang shook his head, indicating that it was impossible: "I will not allow my soldiers to face such danger."
As Ji Lang spoke, he turned to look at the hatch. There was an observation window on the hatch. When Ji Lang came, Lu Yuan could vaguely see a figure in the observation window, but this time there was nothing there.
"Bang bang bang!"
The knocking sounded again. Ji Lang made a "shh" gesture to Lu Yuan, signaling him to stay where he was, while he quietly made his way to the cabin door.
As Ji Lang approached the door, he heard rustling sounds outside, followed by two childish voices:
"Uncle, is Uncle there?" The two voices startled Lu Yuan and Ji Lang. They never expected that there would be two children outside.
Ji Lang turned to look at Lu Yuan, his eyes asking if he should open the door. Lu Yuan was usually a very compassionate person, and with two children outside the door, if he were at the door, he wouldn't have asked Ji Lang at all; he would have just opened the door.
Compared to Lu Yuan, Ji Lang was much more cautious. A few days ago, he brought several children back to the base from the dock. He vaguely remembered that the youngest child mentioned that they had a friend who hadn't arrived yet, but an older child said that the friend had died. So Ji Lang didn't think much of it at the time.
"Do you know Abei?" Ji Lang asked through the cabin door. The fact that two children would run to the yacht in such cold weather meant they had likely developed special abilities; otherwise, they would have frozen solid halfway there. At this moment, he and Lu Yuan inside the cabin were probably the weaker ones.
"Uncle, is Abei with you?" one of the childish voices rang out again from outside. "We miss him very much."
Ji Lang calmly asked the children outside about Abei's characteristics, and they all gave him a description. He exchanged a glance with Lu Yuan before opening the hatch.
As soon as the cabin door opened, the wind and snow poured in. Two shivering children, though bundled up in their clothes, were still tiny and looked to be no more than ten years old.
When Lu Yuan saw the two children come in like this, he felt even more sorry for them. He immediately called the two children to the heater to warm up, and then prepared to give them some food and warm clothes.
Before he could even retrieve anything from his spatial storage, the two children rushed towards him. The taller child held a dagger, and when the dagger touched Lu Yuan's neck, the chilling sensation made Lu Yuan shudder.
Ji Lang hadn't expected the two kids to have prepared this. He didn't impulsively rush over to rescue Lu Yuan, since he still couldn't be sure what their special abilities were. He could only stand there and remain in a stalemate with them.
"What do you want?" Ji Lang asked.
"Hand over all the food! Otherwise, I'll kill you!" The shorter child's speech was not very clear, and he didn't speak standard Mandarin. He spoke with a bit of an accent, saying the "fiercest" words in a childish voice.
Lu Yuan dared not move. The child with the knife pointed at his neck was a bit taller than the other one, but not as tall as Lu Yuan. He had to lean back to avoid the cold knife, a posture that was really too much of a test for him, whose waist strength was not very good.
Hearing the child's fierce yet endearing words, Lu Yuan subconsciously glanced in the direction of the yacht's refrigerator.
The child was very observant; he immediately caught Lu Yuan's gaze, dashed to the refrigerator, and opened it without any hesitation.
There wasn't much in the refrigerator, since Lu Yuan and the others had already eaten two or three meals on the yacht, but in the eyes of the two children, this was the biggest harvest they had seen in months.
While one of the children was getting food from the refrigerator, Ji Lang tried to tie him up from behind. This way, he would at least have a hostage and leverage to negotiate with the child.
"boom!"
Before Ji Lang could move, a loud bang was heard, and a black mark appeared on the carpet in front of him—a burn mark from the intense heat. His wisps of hair seemed to have been blown by the heat, and he could still smell the burnt odor. But just moments before, he hadn't seen anything appear in front of him at all.
"I'm warning you, you'd better not touch anything!" The child in front of the refrigerator peeked out at Ji Lang, then turned back to continue packing food into his backpack.
They were both quite young, and their backpacks, just like those of two elementary school students, were quickly filled. There was still a lot of food left in the refrigerator. The boy was conflicted; he hesitated for a long time between the backpack and the refrigerator, taking things out and putting them back in repeatedly, until finally, tears welled up in his eyes.
Clutching his schoolbag, he ran tearfully to the child holding Lu Yuan at knifepoint, crying, "Brother, there's still lots of stuff in the fridge..."
The child struggled to hold back the tears welling up in his eyes. He suddenly hated himself for not being big enough to take more food. They hadn't had a full meal in a long time. If they missed this opportunity, they didn't know how long they would have to wait to find someone with food again.
"Are your parents still alive?" Lu Yuan couldn't bear to see the children trying so hard to hold back their tears. "Why don't you come and live with us from now on?"
As soon as Lu Yuan finished speaking, the walkie-talkie on the coffee table rang. It was Lin Yun's voice. He said that they had encountered a very powerful zombie. Gu Nanfeng had sensed that the zombie was very strong. Although they had not seen the zombie yet, they could already feel the danger, so they were returning to the yacht.
The fact that Gu Nanfeng could tell that the seven of them combined might not be able to defeat the zombies meant they were probably preparing to escape by boat. Lu Yuan wanted to grab the walkie-talkie to reply, while Ji Lang planned to go to the cockpit to start the yacht.
But the two children thought they were going to fight back, and Ji Lang was instantly surrounded by several scorching flames. Only then did he realize that the children's special ability was that they couldn't see the flames at all.
Lu Yuan's hand, which was reaching for the walkie-talkie, was immediately covered by ice, freezing his entire hand. The coldness spread from his palm to his whole body, and without any physical enhancement, Lu Yuan's teeth began to chatter rapidly.
"Weakling!" The child who held Lu Yuan hostage with a knife sneered at Lu Yuan's appearance, then froze Lu Yuan's feet. He was comforting his crying younger brother while carrying two schoolbags to the refrigerator, intending to take away the most useful food.
