Chapter 6 Nightmare Cavern, Frenzied Leveling Up
Chapter 6 Nightmare Cavern, Frenzied Leveling Up
The dark red light curtain disappeared behind him. Wang Yan sensed that his surroundings had changed.
The temperature dropped rapidly. The air smelled of rust and rotting flesh. The black stone bricks on the ground were slippery, and a viscous liquid oozed from the cracks.
Wang Yan didn't rush forward. He squatted down, dipped his finger in the liquid on the ground, and smelled it. It was the secretion of the bone-eating worms, and it was corrosive.
Wang Yan remembered there were three types of monsters here. The first was the Bone-Eating Worm, which wasn't strong individually but came in large numbers. Under the influence of Nightmare difficulty and the Fate Mark, these worms should be around level 20 now. The second was the Bone-Armored Golem, made of bones. They were slow but had high defense. Their level was around 22 to 23. The last type was the BOSS.
Wang Yan stood up and observed his surroundings. The underground cave was a long passage, three meters wide. The walls were riddled with fist-sized holes, insect nests. The passage branched off every so often.
Wang Yan walked slowly along the right wall.
I heard the sound of something landing behind me.
"Why are you running? Wait for us..." The voice of the goose stewing in an iron pot echoed in the passageway, then stopped. The goose saw the densely packed holes in the wall.
"What is all this...?"
"Shut up," Zhuang Bugui said in a low voice. "Don't make a sound."
Wang Yan didn't turn around. Zhuang Bugui quickly followed, walking beside Wang Yan and saying, "There's something in the hole in the wall."
This is not a question.
Wang Yan responded.
How many?
"I don't know. But there are holes on both sides of the road."
Zhuang Bugui remained silent and followed Wang Yan to the first fork in the road. The road to the left was dry, while the road to the right was flowing with a dark red liquid. Wang Yan chose the left path.
Zhuang Bugui followed. Iron Pot Stewed Goose and Qiqi (not Qiqi) also followed closely, not daring to breathe loudly.
After walking for about forty meters, a stone chamber appeared ahead. Scattered in the middle of the chamber were many bones, some with metal fragments on them. Wang Yan looked at the bones, his gaze falling on a box in the corner. It was a treasure chest.
Wang Yan didn't go directly over. He picked up a bone from the ground and threw it forcefully into the middle of the stone chamber.
The bone made a sound as it hit the ground.
The pile of bones on the ground shifted. Metal shards and white bones spun in mid-air. Within seconds, these things assembled into four puppets. The puppets had no eyes, but their mouths moved incessantly. They turned towards the spot where the bones had fallen.
These are level 23 bone armor golems.
The man stewing goose in the iron pot was so frightened his hands trembled. "Level 23? There are four more? We're only level 5..."
"Look carefully." Zhuang Bugui stared at the puppets. "They didn't come over."
The puppets' hatred was in the bones. They circled the bones a few times, then slowed their movements.
"They find their targets by sound," Wang Yan said in a low voice. "They can't see very far. Stay three meters away from them and you'll be fine."
Zhuang Bugui's eyes flickered. "What do you plan to do?"
"I won't fight." Wang Yan took out a piece of bread from his bag, crushed it, and threw it into the innermost corner of the stone chamber.
The sound of the debris hitting the ground was very soft. Hearing the sound, the puppet turned around and walked towards the corner. The path in the middle of the stone chamber was now clear.
"Walk close to the wall and don't make a sound." Wang Yan led the way. He walked with his feet landing on the ground first, without making a sound.
Zhuang Bugui followed, moving very quietly. The stewed goose in the iron pot gritted its teeth and moved in step by step. Qiqi, not Qiqi, slid over the wall.
Wang Yan arrived at the treasure chest. He opened the chest, having already smeared bread crumbs on the rusty hinges beforehand, so that it made no sound.
There were three items in the box: a white-quality Bone-Splitting Dagger, four gray pieces of Corrosion Ore, and a green Bone Armor Core.
Wang Yan attached the dagger and ore fragments to the blade of the God-Slaying Primordial Blade. The rusty sword trembled, absorbing the materials. Several more pieces of rust fell off the sword.
The system shows that the growth progress has reached 39. The attack power has increased from 7 to 11.
Wang Yan pressed the green core onto the sword again. The rusty sword trembled violently, and green light drilled into it. Large patches of rust on the sword's surface fell off, revealing silver-gray metal. Part of the nick on the blade was also repaired.
The progress jumped to 58. Attack power increased from 15 to 22.
Zhuang Bugui watched from the side. He stared at the sword that could devour materials, his brows furrowed deeply.
Wang Yan led a few people back the way they came. The puppets were still staring blankly at the bread crumbs in the corner.
Back in the main passage, Wang Yan walked even faster. He entered several side paths and opened three treasure chests. Each time, he used sound to lure the monsters away, avoiding any combat.
The progress of the Godslayer: First Embryo had been increasing, finally stopping at 88. The sword blade became much brighter, and red patterns appeared on the hilt.
Wang Yan stopped at the fifth fork in the road. The ground ahead had turned black and smelled terrible. At the end of the passage was a huge bone door.
That's the BOSS room.
Wang Yan checked the panel; he was still 12 points away from completing the task. There were definitely materials in the BOSS room, but the BOSS himself was a problem.
This boss is a level 30 Bone-Eating Mother Worm. Wang Yan is currently only level 2.
Zhuang Bugui looked at the bone gate and exhaled. "What's inside?"
"The bone-eating mother worm," Wang Yan replied.
"What about the level?"
Level 30.
The passageway fell silent. The man with the iron pot stewed goose leaned against the wall, his face filled with despair. Qiqi (not Qiqi) gripped the dagger tightly, her hand trembling.
Zhuang Bugui looked at Wang Yan. "You have a way."
He was waiting for Wang Yan's reply.
Wang Yan drew the God-Slaying First Embryo. The red patterns on the blade shimmered.
"The Bone-Eating Mother Worm has a unique characteristic: it only appears on Nightmare difficulty," Wang Yan said, looking at Zhuang Bugui. "It eats smaller worms to heal itself."
Zhuang Bugui was taken aback for a moment, then understood what Wang Yan meant.
Wang Yan pushed open the bone gate.
A scream erupted from the darkness behind the door. The sound was extremely piercing.
