Chapter 237
Chapter 237
Pei Yundai wasn't lying. She was completely focused on the military camp and unlike the wealthy young men in the capital who often gathered together to compose poems and indulge in refined pursuits, she had no other opportunities to meet men except for the banquets she had to attend. The women in the military camp also offered to introduce her to their younger brothers, but she refused them all. In her view, getting married was an extremely troublesome matter, and besides, she had no feelings for the men she wanted to marry, so it would be irresponsible of her to do so.
Besides, she had heard a lot about the men in the capital, and she really wasn't interested in them. She'd rather stay in the military camp and train.
Seeing that she didn't seem to be lying, General Pei sighed and waved for her to leave.
"The imperial decree will be issued soon. Pack your things in advance and prepare to leave with the prince."
"My daughter knows."
……
Nalan Jingwen returned to the palace and prepared to go to the study to handle the remaining official business. When she walked to the courtyard, she was surprised not to see Jingchi. Usually, wherever she was, Jingchi would be there guarding her. Today, however, she did not see him.
However, she didn't ask too many questions, after all, everyone has their own time to be alone, and Jingchi is no exception. She stopped thinking about it and went into the study.
But as her hand was about to push open the study door, she suddenly stopped in mid-air, her brows furrowed slightly, her eyes sharp. She looked up and stared straight ahead, as if she could see into the study through the door. After hesitating for a moment, she withdrew her gaze, pushed open the door, and went inside.
As soon as she closed the door, the room was plunged into darkness. A cold glint flashed in her eyes, and then a dagger gleaming with a chilling light was pressed against her neck. A soft body pressed against her back, and hot, fragrant breath sprayed on her earlobe, making it slightly itchy.
Nalan Jing glanced at the arm holding the dagger out of the corner of her eye. It was as white as jade, but the only flaw was that there were many mottled scratches of varying depths on the arm, which looked like they were made by a sharp weapon. Her eyes darkened slightly, and she spoke in a deep voice.
"Nalan Yin"
The person behind him chuckled softly, seemingly with a hint of pleasure, and brought the dagger closer. The sharp blade pierced the flesh, and blood flowed down the neck, staining the collar red.
Nalan Jingwen didn't move, showing no intention of resistance. The smell of blood quickly spread, and the person behind her moved closer, as if attracted. Soon, Nalan Jingwen felt something wet on her neck. Nalan Yin was actually licking her blood!
Her face darkened, and she grabbed his wrist, turning him around. Her dark, sharp eyes were fixed on his handsome face. He seemed even more beautiful now, yet he exuded a dangerous aura, like a beautiful venomous snake.
Nalan Yin looked at her, her smile as bright as a flower, her beautiful eyes curving up, shining exceptionally bright in the darkness, but upon closer inspection, the smile did not reach her eyes.
"Has Your Highness missed Yin'er all this time?"
The voice was low, like a whisper between lovers, an atmosphere of ambiguity flowing and spreading.
Nalan Jingwen glanced at the dagger in his hand, then tightened his grip, causing the dagger to slip from his hand and fall to the ground with a crisp sound.
Nalan Yin lowered her eyes and looked down, then smiled and said, "Your Majesty hurt me." Her voice was aggrieved, as if she was really in pain.
As she spoke, her fragrant body pressed against Nalan Jingwen's, nestling in his arms.
Nalan Jing heard him and caught a glimpse of the scar on his wrist out of the corner of his eye. He seemed to realize something, loosened his grip a little, and then pushed the man away from his embrace.
"What are you here for?"
The moment she was pushed away, a hint of danger flashed in Nalan Yin's eyes, but it disappeared quietly when she looked up again.
"If Yin'er doesn't come to see her elder sister, does her elder sister intend to never see Yin'er again in this lifetime?"
He stared intently at her, the smile fading from his face.
Nalan Jingwen met his gaze, then suddenly recalled the scene of his departure that day, and pursed her lips in silence.
Unable to get an answer, Nalan Yin's eyes grew dimmer. He asked, "Is my elder sister still angry with me? It wasn't me who wanted to harm him that day. After I went back, I purged the Red Passion Pavilion."
He was referring to Jinse.
"Yin'er brought a gift for Your Majesty this time."
As he spoke, he took Nalan Jingwen's hand and walked towards the table. On the table was a large, black box, and it was unclear what was inside.
Nalan Jingwen withdrew his hand and said calmly, "When a man is out, he should not get entangled with women."
The warmth in his hand disappeared, the smile on his lips froze on his face, his eyes were dark and his expression was inscrutable. Nalan Yin lowered her head and said in a low voice, "I have not been involved with any other women. I only want to be with you."
The voice was very soft and gentle, as if it were being spoken to Nalan Jing, or perhaps to oneself.
Nalan Jingwen glanced at her indifferently, then with a flick of his sleeve, the candles in the room were lit, instantly illuminating the room.
She had a habit of not liking others to enter her study and room when she was not around, so she would not turn on the lights when no one was there.
Nalan Jingwen walked over and carefully examined the black box. He smelled a strange fragrance and an indescribable scent. The scent was actually faint and subtle, completely masked by the fragrance. An ordinary person would probably only be able to smell the fragrance.
She didn't want to guess and opened the box directly.
It wasn't that she wasn't wary of Nalan Yin; any normal person would suspect that such a strange box contained a hidden weapon. But she wasn't a normal person, and neither was Nalan Yin.
Moreover, Nalan Yin had no intention of killing her.
Inside the box was a spherical object wrapped in a silk handkerchief, with bloodstains on the edges. Nalan Jingwen knew what it was at a glance.
It is a human head.
Now she knew exactly what that indescribable taste was.
She turned to look at Nalan Yin, her face calm, and asked, "What does this mean?"
Only then did she notice that Nalan Yin's face was unusually pale, without a trace of color. Her face was not visible in the darkness, but it was clear now that the light was on.
Nalan Jingwen frowned and glanced at his clothes again. They were very thin and offered no protection against the cold, making him look frail and delicate, beautiful yet fragile, with a thin frame that was heartbreaking.
Nalan Yin glanced at the heads behind her and said, "Yin'er went back and purged the Red Passion Pavilion, and found this traitor. He was the one who exposed our whereabouts. I said I would definitely find him. I had no intention of harming anyone around my elder sister."
He lied. He actually minded all the men who got close to Nalan Jingwen and wished he could kill them all so he could have Nalan Jingwen all to himself.
But he can't; Nalan Jingwen will hate him.
"He betrayed me, so he deserves to die. Yin'er brought him here and even had his scent concealed to avoid offending my elder sister. Does my elder sister trust Yin'er?"
Nalan Yin looked aggrieved, but her eyes flashed with a crazy light as she stared intently at Nalan Jingwen.
Nalan Jingwen frowned even more deeply.
"However, we haven't found out who he betrayed yet. How about we tell you, my elder sister, once we find out?"
He was like a little dog, wagging his tail, pitifully waiting for his owner's praise.
