Chapter 93
Chapter 93
Nalan Jingwen turned his gaze to Xu Qing again.
"I want you to enter the Red Passion Pavilion and become the most popular courtesan in the capital within six months. Are you willing?"
"willing."
"Even if it means risking your life, would you be willing?"
"willing."
His tone was firm.
"For the next six months, you will have to rely on yourself. If anything goes wrong, I will have someone else take your place. I will give you one last chance to regret it. If you are unwilling, I will let you go."
He only has one chance. Whether he lives or dies, he can only rely on himself. No one will help him or protect him.
"Xu Qing has been bought by the prince, and will remain the prince's man until death. Xu Qing has no regrets."
Nalan Jingwen nodded, quite satisfied.
"Alright, you can go now. Someone will tell you what to do."
Xu Qing had just stood up when Cheng He's voice came from outside the door.
"Your Highness, the Prince Consort has arrived."
"Let him in."
As soon as Rong Hengyu entered, he saw Xu Qing, who bowed to him and then followed Cheng He. He glanced back at her, his expression unreadable.
"How did you come?"
Rong Hengyu snapped out of her daze and gave a faint smile. "What is that?"
"He's not an important person, we don't need to worry about him."
Rong Heng understood and didn't ask any more questions. He simply said, "The moonlight is beautiful tonight. Would Your Highness like to enjoy tea with me under the moon?"
Before Nalan Jingwen could answer, he saw Jingchi, whom he hadn't seen for many days, walk in, covered in dust.
"Your Highness, Your Highness, Your Majesty."
"Get up."
Jingchi looked at Nalan Jingwen, clearly wanting to say something, so she could only look at Rong Hengyu.
"I'm afraid it won't work tonight. Your Majesty, you should rest early."
Upon hearing this, Rong Hengyu merely smiled slightly and bowed slightly, saying, "Then I will not disturb Your Highness any longer. I will come again another day."
Before turning to leave, he glanced at Jingchi's cold and stern face out of the corner of his eye, and composed himself.
After everyone had left, Jingchi said, "Your Highness, Duan Yu and Prince Jia have arranged to meet at the Red Passion Pavilion tonight."
"Red Passion Pavilion?"
"Yes."
"Did you find anything else?"
"Although Duan Yu and Prince Jia appear to have no connection, they have informants in secret who keep in touch with each other. Duan Yu's information has been destroyed, and her past information cannot be found. When she reappears, it is in the capital."
Nalan Jingwen lowered his eyes, seemingly lost in thought.
Is there any connection between Duan Yu and Duan Chengwu?
"No results found; Duan Yu's previous information is completely blank."
It's only suspicious if the position is blank. The imperial court is very strict in selecting the imperial guards. How could they allow someone of such dubious origin to become an imperial guard?
"If we can't find Duan Yu, then we'll investigate Duan Chengwu. Find out everything about her past, how many people are in her family, how many relatives she has, and what their names are."
"Yes, my subordinate will do it now."
"Wait."
Nalan Jingwen stopped Jingchi, who was about to leave, and the latter looked over in confusion.
"We'll go tomorrow. You should pack your things first, and then we'll meet at the Red Passion Pavilion later."
"Yes."
Above the imperial city.
Nalan Jingwen did not intend to go through the main gate. Instead, he used his lightness skill to sneak into the palace, avoiding all the guards and imperial soldiers, and arrived at Jing'an Palace without any mistakes.
The hall was brightly lit by candles, yet it was completely quiet, without a single sound.
They appeared silently inside the hall, glanced around, and found it empty, without a single palace servant.
She frowned. How could someone abandon their post like this when no one was watching?
Not seeing Nalan Yin, she thought for a moment and went behind the screen. Sure enough, in front of the iron cage, who else could it be but Nalan Yin?
He sat on the ground, hugging his knees, seemingly staring blankly at the iron cage. His face showed a bewildered expression. His complexion was not as pale as before, but it was still frighteningly white, like a porcelain doll. He had gained some weight in the past few days.
Nalan Jingwen stood quietly behind him not far away, watching as he pulled out a dagger and rolled up his wide sleeve, revealing a dense array of wounds, both new and old.
Seeing that he was about to slash down with the dagger without hesitation, Nalan Jingwen quickly made a move, knocking the dagger out of his hand, and stood in front of him with a solemn expression.
"What are you doing?!"
The moment Nalan Jing saw her, his eyes lit up, but then his expression froze, and he lowered his eyes and turned his face away coldly.
"How did you come?"
His tone was indifferent, showing no intention of answering her question.
"What are you doing?"
Nalan Jingwen repeated himself, his sharp eyes fixed on him.
"What's it to you? Do I have to report everything I do to you?"
As he spoke, he stood up to pick up the dagger from the ground.
However, before he could even touch it, Nalan Jingwen kicked it even further away.
"you!!"
Nalan Yin straightened up and glared at her, her gaze seemingly burning her through.
Ignoring his fierce gaze, Nalan Jingwen pulled him over, disregarding his struggles, and lifted his sleeves to reveal the hideous wounds.
"Is this why you dismissed your servants?"
Nalan Yin looked away from her, saying, "It's none of your business."
Nalan Jingwen looked at his stubborn face, said nothing more, put his hand down, and turned to leave.
Nalan Yin watched her departing figure and subconsciously took a step forward, but then, as if remembering something, she finally stopped and turned back, her eyes glazed over.
Did she leave? Was it because she saw his wounds and found him disgusting?
He sat on the ground again, hugged his legs, and buried his face in them.
When Nalan Jingwen returned, he saw the person curled up in a ball, looking pitiful.
He sighed and stepped forward.
Hearing the noise, Nalan Yin slowly raised her head, two bright tear tracks still hanging on her cheeks.
Nalan Jingwen was clearly taken aback for a moment, then lowered his head and asked, "What are you doing back here again?"
Nalan Jingwen didn't speak, but squatted down, took his hand, took out a little of the ointment she had brought, and gently applied it to her wound.
Nalan Yin stared blankly at her movements. Although her expression was indifferent, one could still sense her caution and helplessness.
He was somewhat bewildered and blurted out, "Don't you think I'm disgusting?"
Nalan Jing was taken aback. He realized that this was the kind of person Nalan Jing thought he was, and then gave him a light flick on the forehead.
When did I ever say you were disgusting?
Nalan Yin raised her hand and touched the spot where she had been tapped, her lips slightly parted, but she said nothing.
Nalan Jingwen applied the medicine for him, placed the ointment in his palm, and instructed, "Apply the medicine twice a day from now on, don't forget."
Nalan Yin looked down at the ointment lying quietly in her palm, a trace of confusion and strange emotion flashing in her eyes. Then she looked up at her and asked, "You just left, did you go to get my medicine?"
Nalan Jingwen glanced at him indifferently, "Otherwise what?"
Nalan Yin slowly closed her palms, as if she were holding some precious treasure.
Nalan Jingwen stood up and said, "Don't hurt yourself anymore." Then he turned to leave.
Nalan Yin reached out and grabbed the hem of her clothes. "You came to me just to apply medicine for me?"
"Of course not. I originally planned to take you out of the palace, but seeing your condition, I decided against it."
Upon hearing this, Nalan Yin gripped her fist even tighter.
"I want to go with you."
