Chapter 64
Chapter 64
Upon hearing this, Jingchi's eyes darkened slightly. He then put on his clothes and transformed back into a composed personal guard.
Nalan Jingwen was somewhat confused, but did not stop him.
"So, what's the significance of this tattoo?"
After dressing, Jingchi turned to look at Nalan Jingwen, his gaze fixed, his pure eyes revealing no emotion. He stared at her for a long time before saying, "It was bestowed upon me by a very important person of mine."
She said that with this, her subordinates could stay by her side forever.
Nalan Jingwen met those eyes and was momentarily stunned.
He gazed at her, his eyes slightly watery, his expression unreadable, deep and enigmatic.
She asked, "Where is she now?"
Jingchi shifted his gaze, lowered his eyes to look at the ground, his aura dejected, and said faintly, "I don't know."
"I don't know?"
Jingchi responded with a soft sound, gazing at the distant mountains, his voice distant and wistful.
"She's gone. I haven't found her yet. Or perhaps I have, but she doesn't remember me."
Nalan Jingwen caught a glimpse of his profile. Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the treetops, softening his resolute face. She clearly saw a tenderness and bewilderment in his eyes that she had never seen before.
Who was this person that he misses so much?
"Why doesn't she remember you even after we found her? Has she lost her memory?"
Jingchi turned to look at her and shook his head.
"I don't know."
Nalan Jingwen stared at him intently with probing eyes, but eventually changed the subject; it wasn't appropriate for her to pry into other people's business.
"Let's go back, they must be getting impatient."
Jingchi didn't say anything, just nodded and followed behind her.
Upon returning to the original spot, Hongyun immediately stepped forward and knelt down.
"Your subordinate failed to protect me properly, and I beg Your Highness to punish me."
"Get up, it won't happen again."
That man was extremely skilled in martial arts; even she might not be able to handle him, let alone them.
Nalan Jingwen ignored them and walked straight to the carriage. Before she could get on, a figure rushed out and hugged her tightly. She instinctively raised her hand to catch him so he wouldn't fall off.
"Nalan Jingwen, I heard you're finally back! I thought something had happened to you! Your guards wouldn't let me go to see you!"
Nalan Jingwen lowered his eyes slightly and patted his back.
"It's alright, the other party had no intention of hurting me."
Pei Yunche got off her and checked her over from head to toe. He was relieved to make sure she was not injured.
"It's good that you're alright. If something had happened to you, who would I marry?! I don't want to become a widow at such a young age!!"
Nalan Jingwen's face darkened, but he did not refute it, or perhaps he was too lazy to refute it.
Suddenly, Pei Yunche noticed her coat, his expression froze, then darkened, and he immediately bristled.
"Whose clothes are these again?! That guy isn't your ex-lover, is he?! I, the young master, was worried about you, but Nalan Jingwen, you're a complete bastard!!"
As he spoke, he tried to take off the jacket.
Nalan Jingwen felt as if several black lines had slid down his forehead, and he grabbed the hand that was trying to pull off his clothes.
"Enough! What kind of time is this to keep making a scene?!"
His tone became a bit stern.
Pei Yunche's lips trembled, and tears quickly welled up in his eyes, falling down in a steady stream.
"What did I do wrong?! You actually yelled at me for another man?! You bastard!!"
"I was so worried about you, and you still yelled at me like that!!"
Nalan Jingwen looked at him coldly, flung his hand away, and spoke without softening his tone; the air around them seemed to solidify.
"Since I returned, how many times have you called me a bastard? Do you even know what the crime of insulting the royal family is? If I am a bastard, then what are you, someone who's eager to marry a bastard?!"
"Just because I've known you for so many years and haven't held a grudge against you, and have even been tolerant of you in every way, doesn't mean I really won't do anything to you!"
"So what if I have men? Do I need to report to you every single one of them? Or do you expect me to change myself for a man?"
Nalan Jingwen stared at him with his dark eyes and said, word by word, "Absolutely impossible!"
Nalan Jingwen would never change herself because of anyone's dissatisfaction. If they could accept it, they could stay by her side peacefully; if they couldn't, they could leave. She would never stop them in the slightest. She could spoil them and, as a qualified lover and wife, give them the respect and care they deserved. But she would never allow them to act unreasonably because of her favor.
She couldn't possibly admit to something that didn't happen, and had been unjustly slandered and wronged!
She had just suffered humiliation, and many things were shrouded in doubt. He was still throwing a tantrum and acting childish. She didn't have the energy to coax him or deal with his jealousy.
If the men in her backyard only know how to be jealous and suspicious all day long, without any consideration for her feelings, then this family is better off not existing.
Pei Yunche stared wide-eyed, his face blank, as if he couldn't believe that Nalan Jingwen would say such a thing about him. His eyes were red and he felt extremely wronged, and his tears fell even more profusely.
"you you……"
"How could you..."
Nalan Jingwen ignored him and got into the carriage.
"Red Cloud, let's set off!"
Jingchi merely glanced at him indifferently before following Nalan Jingwen into the carriage.
Hongyun felt a little embarrassed. Having just witnessed her masters arguing, she wished she could bury her head in the ground. She walked to Pei Yunche's side, who looked lost and dejected, and hesitated before saying, "Young Master Pei, it's getting late. Let's get in the carriage. We should set off."
Pei Yunche snapped out of his daze, glanced at her, and then looked at the carriage behind him.
"Who wants to ride in her car?! I'm not serving her anymore!"
Upon hearing this, Hongyun could only awkwardly respond twice, unsure of who was serving whom.
"I refuse to believe it! I can't live without you!!"
After saying that, he turned to leave.
Hongyun was startled and quickly stopped him.
"Young Master Pei, where are you going?"
"Go away!"
"Young Master Pei, what if something happens to you while you're alone?"
Pei Yunche wiped away his tears and pushed her away.
"It's none of your business!!"
Hongyun wanted to say something more, but then she heard a voice coming from inside the carriage.
"Let him go."
Upon hearing this, Pei Yunche suppressed his tears and grievances, then turned and left.
Hongyun looked at his departing figure, then at the carriage, and thought to herself, "What kind of mess is this!"
"Your Highness, leaving Young Master Pei alone might be..."
"Your Highness, I will go and protect Young Master Pei."
Mirror Pool Road.
Nalan Jingwen glanced at him and nodded.
Hongyun finally breathed a sigh of relief and prepared to set off.
This place isn't far from the city, otherwise she wouldn't have felt comfortable letting Pei Yunche leave.
We will arrive at the Northern Cold Peak Region tomorrow. Tonight we need to rest in the city and buy the necessary supplies in case of emergency.
