Chapter 45
Chapter 45
Nalan Jingwen thought for a moment, "Make a room in my courtyard."
Since he was to be a bodyguard, he naturally needed to live nearby. The guards in the mansion were all women, and it would be inconvenient for a man like him to live there.
Cheng He was greatly alarmed, but he didn't show it. He just asked tentatively, "Does Your Highness want him to stay in your courtyard?"
Nalan Jingwen frowned, somewhat displeased. Wasn't what she said obvious enough?
Seeing that she was unhappy, Chenghe immediately said, "This old servant understands!"
It seems this person is no ordinary individual. Although he is a guard, he cannot be neglected. He has already made up his mind.
Silence fell for a moment, broken only by the clinking of bowls and chopsticks. Nalan Jingwen finished eating, took a handkerchief to wipe his mouth, and then asked, "How is the King's consort?"
"Not awake yet."
Cheng He answered, clearly somewhat reluctantly.
Nalan Jingwen glanced at her unexpectedly, "You seem to dislike him very much."
Cheng He immediately waved his hand, "No, this old servant wouldn't dare."
Why does Cheng He dislike Rong Hengyu? What is the reason for their conflict?
"Let's go and have a look."
She got up and went out, with Cheng He following behind. They arrived at Rong Hengyu's courtyard. The king had his own courtyard and did not live with her, so he probably had no right to live with her at all.
The courtyard was heavily guarded, clearly not by the Prince's mansion. Nalan Jingwen remained expressionless and walked over. Just then, Hongyun came out from inside and her eyes lit up when she saw her.
"Your Majesty, you are here!"
Seeing this, the guard withdrew his hand that had been extended to stop her. Nalan Jingwen merely glanced at him without saying a word before turning his gaze to Hongyun's face and nodding.
"Well, let's take a look."
"Your Majesty, please come in."
As soon as they entered the courtyard, a strong smell of Chinese medicine hit them. Cheng He, who was beside him, frowned and raised his hand to cover his nose, but then, remembering something, he lowered his hand.
Nalan Jingwen saw everything but said nothing. Hongyun also noticed, but since the prince didn't say anything, she naturally couldn't have any thoughts about it.
With different thoughts in mind, everyone entered the room.
The smell of Chinese medicine in the room was even stronger, making it suffocating. When the servants in the room saw Nalan Jingwen, they immediately knelt down and bowed.
She walked to the bedside, and the servant next to her tried to stop her, but was glared at by Hongyun and reluctantly withdrew his hand.
Nalan Jingwen did not miss the fleeting look of disgust in the servant's eyes, but he did not care much. This servant was Rong Hengyu's personal servant. She had brought his young master into the mansion through such vile means. It would be strange if he liked her.
Lifting the curtain, Rong Hengyu lay on the bed, her eyes closed and her breath faint. Her skin was so white it was almost transparent, her face as bright as the moon, her nose straight, and her long eyelashes fine and dense. It was an extremely noble beauty, like a treasure kept in a pavilion, only this treasure was now covered with a layer of gray.
Frail, magnificent, and broken.
With such looks, no wonder the original owner was so infatuated with him and used every means to get him. This person was born to be the Empress, sitting in the most honorable position.
Pity.
Nalan Jingwen glanced at it only once before turning his gaze to Hongyun.
"What did the doctor say?"
Hongyun shook her head.
"The doctor said that Wang Fu's heart and lungs are severely damaged and there is no hope of recovery. He probably won't make it through the month."
The servant boy suddenly glared angrily at Hongyun, "Didn't you say that as long as you had that medicine, Young Master would be cured? What do you mean you won't make it through the month?! Why did you lie to me?!"
Hongyun was also saddened, her eyes reddened, but she still frowned as she looked at him.
"I've only heard of that medicine; no one has ever seen it. It only exists in books. How could I possibly find it?!"
"We have to find him even if we can't! What are you all doing here?! Are you just going to watch him die?!"
He suddenly turned to look at Nalan Jingwen, furious beyond measure, disregarding all sense of hierarchy.
"It's all because of you! If it weren't for you, the young master wouldn't have been so badly injured! If you hadn't used such despicable means, the young master wouldn't have submitted to a纨绔 like you! It's all because of you!"
"Why are you still alive?! You should have died out there!!"
As he spoke, he charged toward Nalan Jingwen, who stood motionless, not even blinking, coldly watching him rush toward him.
"Your Majesty!!"
It was Cheng He's voice.
The next moment, a dark figure blocked his way and subdued him.
"Qinghui! Calm down! That's a prince! What are you doing?!"
Hongyun immediately knelt down before Nalan Jingwen, "Please forgive me, Your Highness. Qinghui was ignorant, and I am willing to take the punishment for him."
"Get up! Why are you stopping me!"
Nalan Jingwen's expression was indifferent, his eyes were pitch black, making it impossible to discern his emotions.
Cheng He rushed over and anxiously checked her over from head to toe. He breathed a sigh of relief only after confirming that she was alright. Then he looked at Qing Huai with a furious tone.
"Who do you think you are! How dare you attempt to assassinate and insult the Prince! Guards!!"
Hongyun immediately stepped in front of him.
"no!"
Cheng He narrowed his eyes, his tone chilling, "Do you want to rebel?!"
Hongyun looked at Nalan Jingwen and pleaded, "Your Highness, please forgive Qinghui this time, considering my merit in escorting you!"
"Protecting the prince is your duty, yet you dare to use it to kidnap him! You have some nerve!"
Hongyun remained silent, only staring intently at Nalan Jingwen.
Finally, she raised her hand to stop Chenghe, who looked at her with some hurt.
"Your Majesty..."
He pulled Chenghe to his side and turned to look at the two of them.
"You want to take the punishment for him?"
"Yes."
Nalan Jingwen nodded, "Okay."
Hongyun was overjoyed, "Thank you, Your Highness!"
Cheng He, however, was displeased. "Your Highness, how can you let this go so easily?!"
Nalan Jingwen raised his hand to stop her from saying anything more, and looked at Hongyun, "You can shield him once, twice, but what about three or four times? Can you keep shielding him forever?"
Then he looked at Qinghuai and said, "If you want your young master to die, then go ahead and cause trouble!"
Why should she take the blame for what the original owner did? And why should she bear their anger for no reason? She owes no one anything.
Hongyun looked solemn, but still shielded the person behind her.
"Your Highness, Qinghui acted impulsively this time; he won't do it again."
But Qinghui, standing behind him, shoved her aside, glaring at him angrily, "Who asked her to shield me?! I'll take responsibility for my actions and accept the punishment!"
"Qinghui! Don't be willful!"
"It's none of your business!"
Nalan Jingwen interrupted them, his expression impatient, "I have no time to listen to your flirting. Do as you please, Chenghe!"
Cheng He smiled smugly at them, "Your Highness, this old servant is here."
"Take him to be punished."
"Yes."
Hongyun tried to stop Chenghe, but Nalan Jingwen just stared at her with a single glance.
She sat down and poured herself a cup of tea.
"Tell me, what medicine is your master still missing?"
Hongyun glanced worriedly at Qinghui who had been taken away, and then heard Nalan Jingwen's question. Finally, she knelt down again.
"It's Red Lotus."
