Interstellar Pampered Marriage: The Yandere Marshal Clings to Me

Chapter 254 Camp

Chapter 254 Camp

The campsite was a safe location that Fu Baili had identified using drones early on.

After the fire was lit and the team members were assigned to guard the area, it became completely dark.

The naturally formed cave they were in was quite large; it could easily fit more than a dozen people.

Xi Yu rummaged through her backpack and pulled out a small packet of compressed energy food; one packet was enough to provide the energy for a full meal. She opened the package and slowly began to eat.

This compressed food doesn't taste good; it's very dry and not very palatable. However, when on a mission, you can't expect too much; as long as you have enough energy, that's fine.

Fang Yiqing also gnawed on the food expressionlessly, swallowing the small packet of compressed food in just a few bites.

"Do you need something wiped off?" Fang Yiqing suddenly asked Xi Yu, who was focused on eating beside him.

"Hmm?" Xi Yu couldn't help but turn her head, wondering what he meant.

Fang Yiqing raised her chin, gesturing for her to look at the three female military doctors in the corner. They were busy treating their frostbitten hands and feet, and applying hand cream.

Xi Yu couldn't help but burst out laughing. She knew that Fang Yiqing was actually indirectly criticizing these pampered people.

Besides Xi Yu and Jiang Yuwen, there are two other female team members, but none of them have complained.

Everyone was assigned to a two-person night watch, except for the medic.

When it was Xi Yu's turn to stand guard, she wrinkled her nose and looked down at Yan San, who was smiling beside her: "With so many people, why were you assigned to stand guard with me?"

"It's fate, it's destiny," he replied ambiguously.

Xi Yu simply rolled her eyes at him, turned her head away and ignored him, since her shift was only for two hours anyway.

They stood guard at the cave entrance, which was also the coldest place. Although there was a fire, it was still unbearably cold.

"Are you cold?" he asked softly, his gaze falling on Xi Yu's face, which was softly illuminated by the firelight.

"No," Xi Yu replied calmly. She was indeed not cold; she had suffered far more than this when she was a mercenary in her previous life.

Yan San smiled and tossed a few small white stones into the fire: "These stones are a specialty of the Yaga Mountains. They can store heat. If they get cold, they can become ice stones, and if they get hot, they can store heat."

Xi Yu had never heard of this.

Once the stones were almost heated, Yan San scooped them out one by one, put them into a specially made gray hot bag, and tossed it into Xi Yu's hand.

"Take this and warm your fingers."

The warm hand warmer lay in her palm. She parted her lips slightly, swallowing back the words of refusal. In any case, given Yan San's stubbornness, he would never take it back.

"Tell me about this mission. What exactly are we supposed to explore?" Xi Yu gripped the hand warmer and looked up to ask.

“Several months ago, a team from our legion detected an unknown signal while flying over the Aga Mountains, and the code it was using was one we had never seen before.”

Yan San spoke slowly, his slightly cold voice mingling with the sound of firewood, which strangely made Xi Yu relax.

"It took Baili three whole months to decipher half of that signal code. We suspect... that it's not a signal that humans can currently send."

"Could it be an alien artifact?" Xi Yu recalled the trajectory of history. It seemed that humanity had only truly entered the interstellar age in a hundred or two hundred years, a very short and urgent time.

“Bai Li also guessed the same thing, so this time we’re going to find out if it’s true or not,” he said softly.
