Chapter 401 - 340: Too Mature
Chapter 401 - 340: Too Mature
It was mid-April.
In the conference room, Nelson and the others stared eagerly at Chen Yu, waiting for his final summary.
Chen Yu cleared his throat with a light cough and said with a smile, "I won’t say too much. The entire team was able to finish the season healthy, and that’s all thanks to your hard work. As for bonuses, don’t worry. You’re getting them."
Evidently, the last sentence had a much bigger impact. Nelson and the others immediately cheered.
"Thank you, BOSS!"
Greg Davis even asked with a grin if the bonus would be enough for the single-person sailboat he had his eye on.
"Don’t worry. A small wish like that can definitely be fulfilled."
If you did a detailed statistical analysis of the entire season, the Phoenix Suns’ injury rate and player absentee rate were definitely the lowest among all 29 teams in the league.
This was especially true for the five main starters, who missed almost no games.
Take O’Neal, for example. Last season with the Lakers, he missed quite a few games. This season, even though Chen Yu had him going through the wringer to lose weight, he had nearly perfect attendance aside from scheduled rests during back-to-backs and the like.
Under these circumstances, the full support of the medical team was naturally indispensable.
At Chen Yu’s request, Brian wasn’t stingy and generously promised bonuses.
"Alright, meeting adjourned."
Chen Yu waved his hand.
The regular season was officially over.
The competition in the West was as fierce as it was last year.
The Phoenix Suns ended up in second place in the West, behind by a single game.
Duncan, with a healthy meniscus, was frighteningly good, averaging 27.1 points and 12.9 rebounds per game. He was the heavy favorite to win his second consecutive regular-season MVP.
The records of the Kings and the Lakers weren’t bad either.
Although Bibi suffered an injury at the start of the season, his replacement, Bobby Jackson, played really well.
With their core roster intact, the Kings remained highly competitive.
The Lakers were also doing alright. Without O’Neal, Kobe had a statistical explosion this season, averaging 31.4 points per game and successfully capturing the first scoring title of his career.
But Yao Ming still needed time to develop.
Moreover, both teams were in the same Pacific Division as the Phoenix Suns, so they were bound to be overshadowed by them.
Therefore, the Kings ultimately finished fourth, while the Lakers secured sixth place, avoiding a first-round matchup against the Phoenix Suns.
The team with the easiest path was the Wolves, who secured the third seed thanks to the weakness of the Northwest Division.
The Mavericks were fifth.
The seventh and eighth spots went to the Trail Blazers and the Jazz, respectively.
The Phoenix Suns would face the Trail Blazers in the first round. Rashid Wallace was tough enough, but against the combined assault of O’Neal and McDyess, the Phoenix Suns shouldn’t have much trouble getting the win.
After reminding Nelson not to forget to report to the sports lab tomorrow, Chen Yu returned to his office to pack up his things.
Just as he was packing, someone pushed the door open and entered.
It was Mark Burnett.
"What are you doing here? I don’t think we have a shoot scheduled for today," Chen Yu said, surprised.
Burnett plopped down in the seat across from Chen Yu and said with a solemn expression, "Chen, we need to get bigger stars."
Chen Yu turned to grab a drink for him, then said after a moment of thought, "Mark, the ratings only dropped by a little bit. It shouldn’t be a big deal, right?"
The third episode of *100-Day Weight Loss*, which aired on March 30th, had another ratings explosion thanks to Kelly’s appearance, ultimately hitting a 17.7.
That number had already surpassed the record set by *Survivor*.
However, the episode that aired two weeks later, on April 13th, only got a 15.8 rating.
Chen Yu considered it a normal fluctuation in the ratings, but Burnett clearly didn’t see it that way.
"Chen, this is definitely not a normal fluctuation! It’s a signal, you understand? A signal telling us we have to get more celebrities," Burnett said, shaking his head frantically.
The ratings for *100-Day Weight Loss* had exploded, and now Burnett couldn’t even be bothered with his own show, *Survivor*. His focus had completely shifted to the weight loss project.
In his eyes, a ratings drop of nearly two points was by no means a small problem.
Chen Yu thought for a moment, then said, "If you really want to keep bringing on celebrities, I think I should be able to get the Rocket Man."
"Who?"
Burnett let out a shriek, saying in disbelief, "Are you serious?"
The Rocket Man, Roger Clemens, a six-time Cy Young Award winner, was known as the greatest pitcher in Major League Baseball history. In the world of baseball, his achievements and influence were comparable to Jordan’s.
Chen Yu nodded with a smile.
Clemens, born in ’62, was already 41 years old. His long career had left him with a body full of injuries, and he had previously sought out Chen Yu for treatment last December.
Not to mention, Chen Yu also had a connection through Hill’s father.
Although Major League Baseball didn’t need any promotion, with their season just starting, having a famous pitcher make a guest appearance on a hit show could probably generate some buzz for the MLB’s new season.
Burnett’s breathing quickened. He then said, "The MLB season has already started, and at the beginning of the season, he said he was going to retire after this one. Does he have the time?"
"He should be able to spare two days for the shoot," Chen Yu said.
They said they filmed one episode every two weeks, but that didn’t mean they filmed every single day.
Kelly only filmed for three days.
And precisely because he was retiring at the end of the season, he had an even greater need to participate in commercial activities and make money.
Burnett thought for a moment, but still shook his head and said, "Roger is a good choice, of course, but I have another idea."
He had been about to say it just now.
"I want to invite Michael Jackson," Burnett said, his gaze burning as he stared at Chen Yu.
"Who?"
Chen Yu stared at Burnett, utterly shocked and in disbelief.
’This guy really dreams big.’
"That’s impossible," Chen Yu said, shaking his head.
Although Chen Yu would also love to get Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson rarely appeared on television shows, let alone a reality show like this one.
