Traveling back to ancient times to get rich

Chapter 64 At a loss

Chapter 64 At a loss

Dong Yijia hadn't even heard the elegant young man before her address her as "Aunt Dong"! She only vaguely heard him call her "Miss Dong"? What? Miss Dong? This was outrageous! You see, she was a real old lady... Oh, no, wait, things weren't like before; she had regained her youthful appearance. Even so, being called "Miss Dong" still made her feel somewhat lost and flustered.

For a moment, Dong Yijia didn't know how to respond. In her panic, she hurriedly said, "Oh dear, I haven't eaten yet. Since you've already eaten and drunk your fill, I'll go out and find some food to fill my stomach." Before she finished speaking, she fled in a panic, like a frightened rabbit, without even turning her head.

Liu Yufeng gazed tenderly at the beautiful and slightly adorable woman before him, a warm feeling welling up in his heart. Reflecting on his life over the past thirty years, he had devoted almost all his time and energy to two things: first, diligently practicing martial arts, striving for perfection; and second, constantly traveling the martial world, upholding justice, and helping those in distress.

Today, under his leadership, Red Leaf Pavilion has grown increasingly powerful and renowned. However, while achieving brilliant success in his career, his personal emotional world remains barren. For so many years, he has been constantly busy honing his martial arts skills and performing acts of justice, never stopping to pay attention to the women around him. If he hadn't been injured while assassinating a corrupt official, perhaps he still wouldn't have had the leisure to care about any woman.

His life had always been filled with endless danger and crisis; he walked a tightrope every day, and the slightest mistake could mean his death. This life of living on the edge had become the norm for him.

Now, with a woman who captivated his heart by his side, he couldn't help but feel worried. Did taking her with him on his adventures mean dragging her into this boundless and perilous world? They might have to wander aimlessly, homeless, constantly facing unknown dangers and challenges. Whenever he thought of this, a pang of regret would rise in his heart—why had he led tens of thousands of men to establish the Red Leaf Pavilion in the first place?

However, now that things had come to this, he knew he probably would never have another chance to leave the Red Leaf Pavilion. Yet, he found it incredibly difficult to part with the woman before him who had stirred his heart. The inner conflict surged like a tide, constantly assaulting his defenses and plunging him into a deep turmoil and struggle.

While the two were deep in thought, Gu Changfeng, Ye Qingchen, Han Zhi, and Zhao Fei returned. Several subordinates followed them into the courtyard, along with Dong Nanxi, who helped put away the purchased goods. Xiao Yue'er also happily assisted. Ye Qingchen said to Xiao Yue'er, "Xiao Yue'er, shall I make you some candied hawthorns?" Then he took Xiao Yue'er away, boiling sugar while talking to her. Soon, Xiao Yue'er happily left with the candied hawthorns. She went to find Dong Nanxi and gave her a skewer. There were still quite a few skewers left, which Ye Qingchen distributed to Han Zhi, Zhao Fei, and a few of the younger subordinates.

Then she started making lunch. She bought two black-boned chickens, added some space water to make chicken soup, and also made many stir-fried dishes and rice. She then called everyone over to eat. She saved a little of everything for the strong man, whose identity she didn't know, especially a large bowl of chicken soup and a chicken leg. Then everyone ate together. After lunch, she asked Aunt Dong to deliver the food to the strong man, but Aunt Dong seemed reluctant to go. Ye Qingchen looked puzzled, but thinking that the injured man needed to recover as soon as possible, she was about to go herself when two people called out to her at the same time. They were Gu Changfeng and Dong Yijia.

Gu Changfeng thought the man was imposing and quite brave; such a serious injury healed in just one night. She was afraid Ye Qingchen would even glance at him. Dong Yijia felt that since Young Master Ye was so good to her and Xi'er, she couldn't let her shyness cause him trouble. So she went herself. She said somewhat shyly, "Young master, I don't know your surname yet. My master has prepared some nourishing food for you. If it's convenient, please come and eat at the table."

Liu Yufeng felt he could move again, so he got out of bed, walked to the table, and began to eat. The food was delicious. None of the many capable people in his territory could cook as well as him, and none of the restaurants he owned across the country could cook like this. It was both a pity and a pleasant surprise. The food was delicious, and the soup was especially good. After drinking it, he felt a warm current flowing through his body, and then he felt comfortable all over, and his inner energy returned to normal.

After finishing his meal, he felt much more mobile, so he said to Dong Yijia, "Thank you very much, Miss Dong! My name is Liu Yufeng, and I pay my respects. Could you please ask the young master who treated my illness if he could give me a suit of clothing?" He then gave Dong Yijia the jade pendant that he always wore on his clothes and continued, "Miss Dong, please keep this jade pendant as a token of your gratitude. If you need anything in the future, you can withdraw silver from any of the Great Xia Banks in the country, however much you need."

Dong Yijia blushed deeply as she held the jade pendant. She immediately went to Gu Changfeng to ask for a ready-made garment. Gu Changfeng had just bought many pieces that day and sent her one over. Liu Yufeng said to Gu Changfeng, "Thank you for saving my life, Young Master Gu. I am Liu Yufeng. This is my token, which I present to you. Perhaps I can help you with anything you need in the future. I will be leaving today; there are probably wanted posters for me all over this area, which wouldn't be good for you."

Gu Changfeng looked at him, then at Dong Yijia, and said, "Young Master Liu, I will accept this token. If you don't have any urgent matters to attend to recently, you should rest for a few more days before you leave. Young Master Liu is righteous, going to kill corrupt officials. I suppose you must be from the Red Leaf Pavilion. I admire the forthright men of the Red Leaf Pavilion. I wonder if I could become friends with Young Master Liu?"

Liu Yufeng now found Gu Changfeng much more agreeable. Perhaps he genuinely didn't want to leave; he still didn't know if Miss Dong was married, but judging from the jade pendant she received earlier, she probably wasn't. So he wanted to learn more, and seeing that the mortals weren't kicking him out, he shamelessly stayed. Just then, Gu Changfeng said he'd brewed some medicine for him and left, leaving Liu Yufeng and Dong Yijia alone. The two of them just looked at each other, unsure what to say.
