Chapter 22 Reconnaissance Camp
Chapter 22 Reconnaissance Camp
The cave entrance is small, just big enough for two people to walk in side by side.
A bandit sat at the entrance of the cave, holding a single-edged sword in his arms, nodding off.
There were two campfires not far from the cave, but no sign of the bandits. However, there were three or four tents scattered nearby, with several figures lying inside.
The three bandits went into the tent, and after a brief conversation, three sleepy-eyed bandits came out.
They picked up their equipment and headed out of the camp.
At the outermost edge of the main camp, three sentries carrying torches were patrolling.
This is the bandits' main camp!
Luo Xu lay prone behind the bushes, observing the layout of the camp.
Each of the three sentries is responsible for a fan-shaped area. Their routes do not overlap, and adjacent sentries can see each other's positions.
One of the sentries paused at the edge of the area and glanced down toward the first campfire on the hillside.
The first campfire wasn't far away; you could see its light clearly from there.
Luo Xu frowned.
If there's anything unusual about the first campfire and the path, then these three sentries will definitely be able to spot it.
His gaze shifted upwards.
At the cave entrance, the bandit holding the single-edged sword was in the highest position, so the three outer sentries must be in his field of vision, and he could most likely also see the first campfire.
Luo Xu withdrew his gaze and mentally reviewed the robber's line of sight from beginning to end.
Those on the upper level can monitor those on the lower level, and those on the lower level can see what's happening outside. If they want to take action, they must first eliminate the bandits at the cave entrance.
However, we don't know the situation inside the cave. What if there are a few robbers sitting a few meters away inside? Wouldn't that be like walking into a trap?
Luo Xu frowned more and more as he thought about it. Although these bandits were not very vigilant, their layout was absolutely flawless.
The leader of these bandits is no ordinary person.
At this moment, Luo Xu suddenly noticed that the bandit at the cave entrance had leaned his head against the mountain wall, unaware that the single-edged sword in his arms had slipped to the ground.
Is he asleep?
Luo Xu's eyes lit up. After confirming that the bandit was asleep, he quickly whispered to the Swift-Foot next to him, "I'll go check if there are any other exits in this cave. You stay here and keep an eye on them. If things don't look right, you can leave first."
If the bandits at the cave entrance fall asleep, then their perimeter will have a major gap.
After agreeing, Feimaotui lowered his body and crept towards the outer edge of the hillside.
He moved quickly, keeping an eye out for traps as he advanced.
The pebbles underfoot made a soft scraping sound on the soles of my shoes, and the moonlight illuminated the outline of the rocks fairly clearly.
The hillside behind the cave is a steep rock face with no path for people to walk on.
Luo Xu carefully searched the entire area around the hillside but found no second exit.
He quickly went back behind the bushes and patted Speedy on the shoulder.
"I'm going back to the village now to report to Captain Walter. You stay here and continue to observe. If anything unexpected happens, run back immediately to report."
"it is good."
Luo Xu walked back along the way he came, and after passing the first campfire, he ran into the woods.
We need to bring Captain Walter and his men here before the bandits at the cave entrance wake up.
A night breeze blew in from the pine forest, and he started jogging after leaving the woods.
We need to bring Captain Walter and his men here before the bandits at the cave entrance wake up.
Suddenly, a small light appeared ahead; it was the three bandits who had left the camp earlier.
Luo Xu didn't cause any unnecessary trouble and continued on his way after bypassing them.
Soon, the blurry outline of Lantas village came into view.
West Village entrance.
Walter paced back and forth, his forehead covered in sweat.
I wonder how Luo Xu and the others are doing?
Walter was walking when he suddenly caught sight of a figure rushing out of the darkness.
"Captain Walter," Luo Xu said in a low voice.
Walter quickly stepped forward, looked behind him, and asked, "How's it going? Where's Speedy?"
"I left him there to keep an eye on the bandits." Luo Xu took a breath and explained the layout of the bandit camp and the fact that the bandits were going to attack Lantas Village the next day.
"There were no bandits by the campfire at the main camp; they were all sleeping in their tents."
"...Those three sentries can see the first campfire; we have to take them out at the same time."
Luo Xu paused for a moment, then said solemnly, "The bandit at the cave entrance is asleep. Now is the best time to make our move."
Walter lowered his head and pondered for a moment, then looked up and glanced at the seven militiamen who had changed into dark clothes.
"The risk is too great. If even one step goes wrong, we will be exposed immediately."
Luo Xu clenched his fists.
The bandits will attack Lanta Village tomorrow, and they will certainly be fully armed. How can the already demoralized villagers resist? Are they supposed to rely on their few militiamen?
He took a deep breath and advised, "Tonight is when their defense is at its weakest; this is their last chance."
"Luo Xu, I understand what you're saying, but the risk is too great," Walter said. "What if the bandits at the cave entrance suddenly wake up? What if one of us makes a mistake and a sentry shouts out? Have you thought about these things?"
"Of course I thought about it. You didn't see how disorganized those bandits were. By the time they set off, we would have been long gone. And even if the plan fails, it will weaken their strength, making it easier to deal with them tomorrow."
Looking at Luo Xu, Walter's tone hardened.
"If we don't come back, Lantas Village will be helpless when the bandits attack tomorrow. It's not that I don't trust your judgment and reconnaissance, but I can't gamble with the whole village."
The other militiamen exchanged bewildered glances as they watched the two men blush with anger over their disagreement.
Luo Xu looked at Walter, and for a few seconds, neither of them spoke.
"Alright, I'll go call Speedy Back." Luo Xu turned and left.
"Luo Xu, don't be impulsive," Walter's voice rang out from behind.
Luo Xu didn't look back, plunging into the night. He stared ahead, his eyes burning with what seemed like fierce flames.
Captain Walter carries too much on his shoulders and doesn't want to take risks, which Luo Xu understands, but he would never be afraid to take risks just because there are risks involved.
No matter how risky tonight's operation is, it's better than standing at the village entrance tomorrow watching fully armed bandits charge in.
The images of Alina and Sarah flashed through his mind, and Luo Xu clenched his fists.
He must not wait for failure.
Just as they were about to reach the grassland, a fire suddenly appeared ahead.
Luo Xu immediately slipped behind a tree, lowered his body, and looked at it from the side of the trunk.
They were the three bandits he had encountered when he left the camp; they still looked half-asleep, yawning as they walked.
Previously, to avoid further complications, they had chosen to bypass them. But now, Luo Xu has decided to let them perish here.
