Chapter 52 Little Fanboy
Chapter 52 Little Fanboy
Batman threw Klein into a corner and then rummaged around on the lab table, hoping to free the poor guy.
Looking at the few buttons in front of him, Batman was somewhat perplexed.
"Damn it, which one is the button to open the door?!"
He pressed the red button that Klein had just pressed, which made the green gas in the lab even more concentrated.
In his anxiety, he decided to press all the remaining buttons.
In his view, nothing could get any worse.
Batman, engrossed in figuring out how to open the door, didn't notice that Klein had woken up behind him.
Klein pulled out a respirator wrapped in burlap and put it on his face, then took out a remote control and pressed a button.
The reinforced glass door slowly opened, and Batman's face lit up with joy.
"The door's open! Come out quickly!"
Batman shouted something, and that very word made the impact even more powerful.
Seeing that the other party ignored him, Batman decided to go in and rescue him, unaware that green gas was slowly filling the entire experimental space.
"Bang!"
A powerful kick landed on Batman's shoulder, causing him to stumble.
It was Klein, who had his face covered with burlap, who ambushed Batman from behind.
"Klein, you bastard!"
Seeing that the other person was awake, Batman's chest filled with rage. "You bastard, what did you do to him?!"
"You'll find out soon enough what I've done, heh heh heh."
The sounds processed by the respirator became eerie and terrifying.
Batman and Klein clashed, and Batman quickly gained the upper hand.
After all, although the scarecrow knew some martial arts, it was no match for him.
Just as Batman had subdued the man and was about to take him back, he suddenly froze when he saw the man's face.
It was a face made up of bats. As soon as he turned around, Batman felt like he was being stared at by countless bats, which immediately awakened the fear deep within him.
"Ah, you...who are you?!" Batman shoved Klein away. "You're not Klein, who are you?!"
"Who am I? I am the messenger of fear!" Klein's voice was deep. "I am your nightmare, Batman. Look into your heart and face your fears!"
As the monster drew closer, Batman felt the urge to run away for the first time.
The sights he could see were one thing, but the sudden appearance of many voices in his head was the real source of his fear.
"Who are you people?" Batman clutched his head in pain. "Why are you talking inside my head!"
"You bastards, get out of my head right now!"
Batman felt like his head was going to split open, as if countless voices were trying to burst out of it.
As soon as he looked up, he saw a large swarm of bats with scarlet eyes flying towards him.
At the same time, scenes from many years ago reappeared before his eyes.
The circus performance, the gunshots in the alley, and other sounds constantly echoing in my mind...
A sliver of reason remained in Batman's mind, making him realize that he had to get out of there first!
Forcibly standing up, Batman leaped out of the window and sped away from Arkham under the cover of night.
Along the way, various voices appeared in his mind in turn, making him feel as if he had suddenly gained countless personalities.
This was not just ordinary fear; it was a bombshell dropped into his mental world, directly targeting what he feared most deep inside.
...
156 Brooklyn.
After rejoining the main force, Gordon began to make arrangements.
"First squad, flank around to the back of the warehouse; second and third squads, attack from the flanks."
Gordon, referring to the simple map, methodically made arrangements: "Leeway and I will lead the fourth squad to launch an attack from the front."
After Gordon made the arrangements, everyone nodded to indicate that they understood.
However, after they finished setting up, all that was left for them was an empty warehouse.
Gordon's face turned grim as he looked at the empty warehouse.
"Don't be discouraged, buddy. Even though we didn't catch them, at least we proved something."
Li Wei comforted her, "Our approach was correct, we were just a little unlucky, just a tiny bit."
After hearing Li Wei's words of comfort, Gordon's expression softened, and he waved for everyone to return to their positions.
Although no one complained, Gordon knew that today's events had likely dealt a significant blow to his reputation.
"Dude, I really don't know what to do next."
In the corner, Gordon finally let his guard down and confided in Levi, "This case has left me somewhat exhausted, both physically and mentally. Perhaps I really am getting old..."
"Dude, what are you talking about? If you ask me, you're at the prime of your life, you should be working hard!"
Li Wei offered the other person a word of comfort, indicating that he should not be discouraged.
Just as the two were about to discuss their next plan, a weak voice suddenly came from the corner of the wall.
"Sir, are you police officers?"
Looking at the little boy peeking out from behind the metal sheet, Li Wei smiled and nodded at him.
"We're police officers, little friend. What can I do for you?"
"I've finally waited for you, officer," the little boy said with a happy smile when he heard the officer admit he was a policeman.
"I'm looking for Mr. Levi Chen, Levi Chen. Can you tell me who he is?"
Looking at the dirty little boy, Li Wei was stunned. He didn't know why the other person had found him.
After a closer look, Li Wei found nothing strange about the little boy and chuckled as he patted his head.
"I am Li Wei, the man you are looking for. What can I do for you?"
"Ah, you must be Mr. Levi? That's wonderful!"
The little boy looked at Levi with a face full of surprise and his eyes sparkling. "You must be the 'Prophet' that the Joker mentioned on TV? Thank you for saving Gotham."
The little boy's words startled Li Wei, and then he understood how he had gained his reputation.
His skyrocketing popularity stemmed from the gratitude felt by countless Gotham citizens like the little boy towards him.
"Good lad, what's your name?"
"My name is William Levy."
"Oh, William, what a fine name."
Li Wei smiled at the little boy and reached out to shake his hand.
"I'm just doing my job, believe me, William."
As long as you keep a positive attitude, one day you'll do even better than me.
William seemed to idolize Levi, and he appreciated Levi's words, his eyes filled with anticipation for the future.
Seeing William's blissful expression, Levi and Gordon exchanged a smile.
As long as the next generation of Gotham has good intentions, the city will one day return to normal.
"Mr. Li Wei, there are a few more things I'd like to tell you."
Clarifying himself from his reverie, William finally remembered the important matter at hand.
However, he looked at Gordon standing to the side and said nothing.
"Oh, buddy, I just remembered I have some things to take care of over there. Let's chat with your fanboy first."
William's gaze made Gordon somewhat embarrassed, so he made an excuse to take care of something and left.
The little guy's intense wariness left Li Wei both amused and exasperated, but he said nothing.
In Gotham, the more vigilant you are, the safer you are.
"William, my friend, what do you want to tell me?"
