Chapter 40 Everything Goes Smoothly
Chapter 40 Everything Goes Smoothly
Robin rubbed his hands together, looking somewhat hesitant.
Many officers were unaware of who Levi was and were quite critical of Gordon's inexplicable appointment of an advisor.
It wasn't until the Joker openly mentioned Levi's name on television that they began to take him seriously.
However, after several recent incidents and learning the inside story, all the police officers have developed immense respect for Li Wei.
Currently, Mr. Li Wei is quite well-known in the police department.
The opportunity to work with Mr. Levi filled Robin with both excitement and anxiety—he was afraid that he wouldn't do a good job and would displease Mr. Levi.
Seeing the hesitant young man, Li Wei smiled and patted him on the shoulder, which drew envious glances from the police officers on guard at the door.
"Good lad, then come with me, I happen to have some things to do."
Levi tossed the Pikachu keys to Robin and smiled happily. After all, with readily available oxen and horses, he could finally get some rest.
Gordon is a good judge of character; his efforts weren't in vain.
The two drove to the hospital, with Levi's first destination being Watts.
This hospital is of a decent standard; the corridors are clean and tidy, and everything is in good order.
The smell of disinfectant that filled the entire hospital made Li Wei feel very uncomfortable.
—Mainly because I smelled this smell too much when I was hospitalized before.
If it weren't for the different nurses giving out perks every day, Li Wei really doubted whether he could have stayed.
"Excuse me, miss, could you tell me which room Mr. Michael Watts is in?"
The nurse at the nurses' station was entering data with her head down when she was interrupted, causing her to frown.
But when she looked up and saw Li Wei's face clearly, her furrowed brows suddenly relaxed.
Not only did he smile, but his tone of voice also suddenly became gentle.
"Hello sir, I'll check for you right away."
After the nurse finished speaking, she put down her work and started operating the computer.
Judging from the nurse's reaction, Li Wei knew that she must have seen his photo through some channels and knew that he had a close relationship with the head of the Wayne family.
Robin interpreted all of this in a completely different way.
Because of his work, he has had a lot of dealings with medical staff.
But no matter when, if you bother them, you'll definitely suffer the consequences.
Thinking of this, Robin looked at Levi with admiration.
As expected of Mr. Li Wei, he is charming no matter where he is.
"Sir, your friend is in room 1714. Would you like me to take you there?"
"No need, thank you, beautiful lady."
Ignoring the nurse's mournful expression, Li Wei led Robin directly towards the ward.
Robin looked at Levi's retreating figure, his eyes filled with even deeper admiration.
He gestured for Robin to stand guard at the door of the ward, and Li Wei pushed the door open and went in.
The ward was unusually quiet, with only the constant ticking of medical equipment echoing in the air.
Watts lay on the hospital bed, pale-faced and wrapped in bandages from head to toe, looking like a mummy.
Levi pulled up a chair and sat on the edge of the bed, just in time to meet Watts' horrified gaze.
"Hi Watts, there are some things I'd like to discuss with you."
"Mr. Li Wei, please tell me what you need, and I will do as you say."
Watts wanted to get up to show respect, but because his body was wrapped in bandages, he couldn't get up at all.
He was very impressed with Li Wei.
"I've come to talk to you about some things concerning Harvey..."
Five minutes later, Li Wei called Robin, and amidst the nurse's mournful gaze, waved goodbye and left the hospital.
Watts was very sensible, and things went surprisingly smoothly.
When Li Wei asked him to prove something, he didn't refuse and immediately nodded in agreement.
Watts also assured Levi that he would only remember today's answer no matter who asked him in the future.
—His injuries were all inflicted by the Joker's henchmen; Harvey suffered greatly to protect him.
"Mr. Li Wei, where do we go next?"
Robin started the car and asked about their next destination.
"Next, we're going to Ramirez's house," Levi said. "It's in Brooklyn; you might know the place."
Robin nodded; as a colleague, he naturally knew Ramirez's home address.
Robin was a very good driver; the black pickup truck sped through the streets, and Levi felt no discomfort sitting inside.
The pickup truck soon came to a smooth stop in front of Ramirez's apartment building. Levi told Robin to wait in the car and went up to the apartment alone.
"Mr. Li Wei..."
Ramirez opened the door and saw Levi standing there with a smile. He glanced behind him, somewhat at a loss.
Following her gaze, Li Wei noticed a little Black girl in the apartment.
She looked to be eleven or twelve years old, innocent and carefree; she appeared to be Ramirez's daughter.
The little girl is currently lying on the desk in the living room, diligently doing her homework.
"Ramirez, I have something I'd like to talk to you about," Levi smiled. "Don't worry, it's not a bad thing for you."
Seeing that Levi understood her concerns, Ramirez breathed a sigh of relief and gave Levi a grateful look.
"Mr. Li Wei, how about we talk on the rooftop?"
Li Wei neither confirmed nor denied this, but nodded and gestured for Ramirez to lead the way.
On the rooftop, after Li Wei explained his purpose, Ramirez immediately nodded in agreement.
She already felt guilty about betraying Harvey and Rachel, otherwise she wouldn't have resigned from the police station.
It can only be said that Li Wei's request was precisely what allowed her to alleviate some of her guilt towards Harvey and Rachel.
"Ramires, listen to me, everyone makes mistakes."
Looking at this woman who had gone astray, Li Wei felt it was necessary to give her a chance. "Gordon makes mistakes, I make mistakes, and of course you will make mistakes too."
In my opinion, as long as you correct your mistakes in time, it's a good thing; there's no need to be so impulsive.
Although you made some mistakes this time, I believe that a mother who deeply loves her child is not a truly evil person.
I hope you can calm down; the police force needs you.
Don't worry about Gordon; I'll talk to him if you're willing to rejoin the police force.
Levi's words left Ramirez stunned, but when she looked up, her eyes were already brimming with tears.
Feeling guilty, she chose to resign, but she soon ran into trouble.
She was raising her daughter alone, and her family was already incomplete, so they struggled to make ends meet.
After quitting her job at the police station, she didn't even know what she could do.
"Thank you... thank you so much, Mr. Li Wei. I will definitely work hard from now on..."
Levi gently patted Ramirez on the shoulder and turned to walk downstairs.
"Remember to come to work on time tomorrow. I'll take care of everything else."
...
As Li Wei opened the car door and sat in the passenger seat, he couldn't help but marvel at the complexity of human nature.
Everyone has their own ideas, and everyone has their own rules of conduct.
Changing your perspective often reveals many different views.
Seeing that Li Wei was deep in thought as soon as he got into the car, Robin didn't make a sound, afraid of interrupting Li Wei's train of thought.
"Go to West Charity Hospital. After we finish this run, we can rest."
Sal Maroni is receiving treatment at West Charity Hospital.
