Chapter 24 The Show Begins
Chapter 24 The Show Begins
The dock was silent; everyone turned to look in the direction of the bridge.
From their perspective, they could only vaguely see a white pickup truck roaring across the bridge.
At this moment, the pickup truck had almost reached the middle of the bridge, but nothing happened.
Everyone was watching closely; as soon as the pickup truck successfully crossed the bridge, they would leave the dock.
A shrewd-looking middle-aged man was quietly squeezing out of the crowd.
Once everyone realizes what's happening, getting back on the bus won't be so easy.
Just as he squeezed past a man, he heard a huge explosion coming from the direction of the bridge.
When he turned to look toward the bridge, he saw a huge mushroom cloud rising from the Gotham Bridge.
One of Gotham’s most important connections to the outside world—the Gotham Bridge—has now been blown in two.
Upon seeing this, he was momentarily stunned, then turned around and began to squeeze into the interior of the dock.
"Police, get out of the way! Let us on the boat!"
With a shout, the previously silent crowd suddenly erupted into a cacophony of shouts.
"We want to board the ship, but the police are doing nothing!"
"Police, get out of here! Let us take control of our own destiny!"
"The police are accomplices, accomplices of the Joker!!!"
Seeing the surging crowd stirred up by the incident, Gordon knew he couldn't stop them.
Soon the crowd broke through the police cordon and approached the cruise ship docked at the pier.
Looking at the endless stream of people, Gordon rubbed his head in frustration.
He simply couldn't understand why things had turned out this way.
"Hey buddy, don't be so upset."
Looking at Gordon's self-reproachful face, Li Wei couldn't help but softly comfort him, "This isn't your fault. It just shows that the Joker has seen through human nature."
"I know, I just find it a little hard to accept..."
Gordon quickly recovered; with such a heavy burden on his shoulders, he had no time for grief.
"Hey buddy, what do you think we should do next?"
"The ship is about to set sail, and we need to have people on board. My idea is for us to split into two groups..."
"You'll take a few plainclothes officers with you to the ship, just in case anything happens, they can handle it..."
Gordon did not object to Li Wei's arrangements, and after calling a few police officers, he mingled with the crowd and boarded the ship.
After watching Gordon and his group board the ship, Li Wei turned against the flow of people and walked towards the center of the city.
He has more important things to do; the Joker is probably waiting for him somewhere.
...
Batman casually tossed out a batarang to deal with the gang members who were trying to take advantage of the chaos. Looking at the mess in Gotham, Batman was a little unsure of where to start.
He heard the explosion coming from the direction of the bridge, but there was nothing he could do about it.
He now has only one goal: to find the Joker and get rid of him as soon as possible.
He'd been busy for so long, but aside from taking care of a few minor things, he hadn't even seen a clown.
That cunning fellow, I wonder where he's hiding now.
Just as he was about to look again, he suddenly noticed that the bat lights at the entrance of the police station were on.
Without a doubt, Gordon must have discovered some clue that requires his help.
Without the slightest hesitation, he headed straight for the police station.
...
"Where's Gordon?"
Batman looked at Levi standing next to the Bat-Signal and asked about Gordon's whereabouts.
"Gordon went to the ship; it's too chaotic at the docks, and he's a bit worried about it."
Looking at the fully armed Batman, it would be a lie to say that Li Wei wasn't envious.
Which man doesn't crave money? Which man doesn't dream of being a hero?
The guy on the other side, on the other hand, had inexhaustible wealth from birth and became a hero in Gotham's darkness.
"Alright, Mr. Li Wei, I wonder what brings you here? I'm busy, I don't have time for idle chatter."
Because of his urgency, Batman's tone wasn't exactly pleasant.
If he hadn't known that Li Wei wasn't the type to joke, he would have turned around and left by now.
"Hey buddy, don't rush, take a break first."
Levi gestured for Batman to rest for a bit. "I know you're looking for the Joker. I roughly know where he is."
But you need to replenish your energy, because it'll be your turn to play soon.
He didn't want to see Batman get beaten up by the Joker again, since, after all, he was on the side of justice.
"Alright, tell me where he is. There's no need to be so careful when dealing with a little mouse."
When Levi said he knew where the Joker was, Batman became anxious.
He didn't consider the Joker a match for him; aside from manipulating people's minds, the Joker had never really shown any outstanding personal combat skills.
"Alright, since you're in such a hurry, I'll tell you. See the dock and the bridge?"
Li Wei said, "Find the tallest building where you can see both the dock and the bridge clearly, and the clown is most likely on that building."
Dude, you have to take me with you...
Levi made a request to Batman, saying he really wanted to witness a classic scene between the two arch-enemies.
As for his personal safety, under such immense temptation, it had been removed from his priorities.
No sooner had he given the location than Batman, with the help of his grappling hook, quickly disappeared, his irritating voice carried on the wind.
"It's too dangerous there. Wait for my good news at the police station."
Watching the black figure disappear from sight, Li Wei was furious.
This guy is really arrogant. I wonder if he'll remember his advice when the clown is pinning him to the ground and beating him.
After quickly getting his bearings, Li Wei found a motorcycle and headed straight for the direction where Batman had disappeared.
He wasn't familiar with Gotham's architecture, which is why he contacted Batman immediately.
Since this guy wasn't taking him along, he decided to go by himself and witness firsthand the scene of this guy getting beaten up.
The motorcycle roared and started heading towards the city center.
As the sound of explosions echoed from the bridge, the crowd that had just been marching and demonstrating was now almost entirely gone.
Everyone realized that the clown was probably not joking. Except for a small number of people who hid at home, the rest rushed to the dock in order to survive.
Although the streets were still a mess, they suddenly became deserted, which provided Li Wei with great convenience.
Putting everything else aside, at least right now he's riding his motorcycle through downtown Gotham City, and the feeling is just too good to be true.
I remember in my past life in the Dragon Kingdom, let alone riding a motorcycle at high speed in the city center.
In many cities, even riding a motorcycle can get you caught by the "hat uncle" (a local official), and then you'll experience a one-stop service of vehicle impoundment and fines.
Li Wei never expected that he wouldn't be able to enjoy the freedom of cycling in China, nor in other parts of Earth.
On the contrary, it was in Gotham, with its simple and honest people, that he truly experienced the winds of freedom.
Looking at the towering building in front of him, Li Wei felt that this should be the one.
...
On the rooftop of the building, the clown watched the ship sail to the middle of the river, feeling extremely smug.
"Let's begin the performance! It's really disappointing that the guests haven't arrived yet."
After the clown finished speaking, the sterns of the two ships in the middle of the river began to explode, and then stopped in the middle of the river due to loss of power.
